Academics at Gaziantep University Have Developed a Machine that Speeds Up the Production of Yarn
Academicians at Gaziantep University (GAUN) have made a breakthrough discovery that will revolutionise the textile industry. The team has developed a nanotechnology-integrated machine that speeds up yarn production and reduces production costs.
Prof. Dr. Mehmet Topalbekiroğlu, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ali Kılıç, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Halil İbrahim İçoğlu and Dr. Behzat Yıldırım of GAUN Textile Engineering Department started a study to develop a machine that would revolutionise the traditional yarn production process, save time and reduce costs. As a result of the project supported by the TÜBİTAK 1001 programme, the innovative machine called “Electro-Sirospun” was produced.
This machine, which combines electricity and nanotechnology, combines the steps used in traditional yarn production in a single device, thereby significantly increasing the speed of the yarn production process. The main advantage of the developed machine is that the opening, cleaning, carding, drawing, roving and spinning processes, which are usually carried out by more than one machine in the yarn production process, are combined in a single machine. The machine, which is expected to both save time and reduce costs in the production process, is aimed to create a significant transformation in the textile sector. In addition to contributing to the economy, the machine will also stand out with its export potential.
Prof. Dr. Mehmet Topalbekiroğlu said that this machine, which is the product of 5 years of intensive work, represents an important development in the field of nanotechnology. Topalbekiroğlu said, “As Gaziantep University academics, we have developed a machine that can produce yarn from nanofibers with the Electro-Sirospun method. This system will make serious contributions to the scientific and technological development of our country. The machine we developed is seen as an important development in Turkiye and internationally.”
The machine, called Electro-Sirospun, is not limited to yarn production. It can also be used for environmentally friendly filters, advanced energy solutions and other nanotechnology applications. This means that the machine will also revolutionise various sectors. Dr. Behzat Yıldırım, a faculty member at GAUN’s Textile Engineering Department, noted that the machine can be used in many areas, from environmentally friendly filters to advanced energy solutions.
