Bursa Mobilized For the Production of Medical Supplies with BTSO

Under the leadership of the Bursa Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BTSO) and coordination of the Governorship of Bursa, the Project Executive Board, which is consisted of BEBKA, Uludağ University, Bursa Technical University, academicians, technology transfer offices and excellence centers, started working on the production of medical products such as disinfectants and respirators, protective medical masks and protective clothing that especially observed a serious price increase in raw materials.

Serial production of the products used in the diagnosis and treatment of the coronavirus will be carried out after being developed and being tested in BUTEKOM, MESYEB, Model Fabrika, and BUTGEM.

We Need to Be Prepared For All Kinds of Scenarios

BTSO Chairman İbrahim Burkay, stating that the coronavirus outbreak affects the whole world, further expressed that ‘‘Compared to America and many European countries, we are in a good state now. However, we need to be prepared for all kinds of scenarios. In this sense, I think that these timely endeavors carried out by our project executive committee are very important.’’ İbrahim Burkay indicated that as BTSO, they would deliver 10,000 surgical visors that they manufactured in the first place to the Provincial Health Directorate, continued as the following: ‘‘Molds were prepared for the serial production of these products. Currently, an infrastructure in BUTEKOM that can produce 7,000 visors daily has become ready. We handed over the requested washing machines to the authorities at the 112 Emergency Service stations for the benefit of our 112 Emergency Service personnel. 1,500 extraction kits used in the diagnosis of coronavirus were supplied by our Chamber and delivered to our Provincial Health Directorate. We also started the distribution of 10,000 food packages to be delivered to our citizens over 65 years old who are facing a curfew. With the cooperation of the public, universities and our industry, we will reach a stage that we will be able to accomplish much more in a short amount of time.’’

The Investments of the BTSO Become Base against Coronavirus Pandemic

Chairman Burkay declared that the city of Bursa possesses an important production power in different sectors, and expressed the following: ‘‘However, we are not in a sufficient position in the production of medical supplies, currently. We can start mass production by developing the products we have determined as a priority within the collaboration of our public, universities, and the industry. We will determine our companies that can manufacture these products according to their capabilities and include them in the process. In this sense, we will make BUTEKOM, MESYEB, Model Fabrika, and BUTGEM, which we have implemented, a base in product development, testing and mass production processes, in terms of both infrastructure and know-how experiences.’’

New Raw Materials Will Avoid Price Increase

Stating that there have been serious price increases in the raw materials of medical products such as masks, surgical gowns, anti-bacterial bed sheets and disinfectants to be used in hospitals, Chairman Burkay stated that they have accelerated their efforts to produce these products with alternative raw materials and production methods. Chairman Burkay underlined that supplying the products needed by a healthy price policy in the domestic market to the hospitals and the public during this process, is among the most important targets of the Chamber, further expressed the following: ‘‘Bursa has a very strong production experience and know-how in the textile industry. Our primary goal is to realize these fabrics with anti-bacterial and anti-viral properties, especially the ones which have finished R&D processes and finalized into an end-product, and technical textile products that will cut the spread of the virus in this period. In this regard, we increased the technical properties of polycotton products that have antiviral characteristics together with nonwoven fabrics and started our studies at BUTEKOM to meet these needs.’’
