The total textile and raw materials exports reached 8.3 billion dollars from January until October 2019. Germany has been the most important export market in this period.

In October, the largest exports of textiles and raw materials were made to the EU (28) countries reaching 443 million dollars. Exports to the EU (28) countries in the January-October period in 2019 were recorded as approximately 4.1 billion dollars. In the same period, the biggest increase in the textiles and raw materials exports occurred in the Turkic Republics with an increase of 9.9%.

In the January-October 2019 period, Germany Turkey’s most important export market for textiles and raw materials. Textiles and raw materials exports to Italy reached 701 million dollars in the same period of the year.

In the first ten months of the year, Italy was the second country with the highest exports figures for textiles and raw materials from Turkey, while the third largest market was the USA. Exports of textiles and raw materials to the US amounted to approximately 488 million dollars. In the same period, the fourth and fifth largest export markets were England and Bulgaria, respectively. Exports of textiles and raw materials to the UK in January-October 2019 was recorded as 388 million dollars. In the same period, exports to Bulgaria amounted to approximately 360 million dollars.

Textile and Raw Materials Exports by Quantity

In the January-October 2019 period, Turkey’s exports of textiles and raw materials by quantity had an increase of 2.2% compared to the same period of the last year. In this period, Italy was most important export market based on the quantity of Turkey’s textile and raw material exports. Total textile and raw materials exports to Italy amounted to approximately 151 thousand tons.

Exports of Textile and Raw Materials by Product Groups

In the first ten months of this year, woven fabrics became the most important product group in the export of textiles and raw materials on the basis of product groups. Exports of woven fabrics, which account for 23.5% of the total exports of textiles and raw materials, amounted to approximately 2 billion dollars. In the same period, the most important sub-product group was cotton woven fabrics with an export value of 747.2 million dollars. In the first ten months of the year, exports worth nearly 133.3 million dollars were made to Spain, the most important country in woven fabric exports.

In the January-October period this year, the yarn group, which accounts for 18.4% of the total exports of the industry in the exports of textile and raw materials, became the second important product group. The yarn exports in this period amounted to about 1.5 billion dollars. For the yarn exports on the basis of sub-product groups, the most important sub-product group was yarns made of synthetic-artificial filament fibers with an export value of 629 million dollars. The most important country in yarn exports was Italy, where exports reached 188 million dollars. England, the Netherlands and Belgium ranked among the top export countries.

Synthetic-artificial fibers have an important place in exports

The fiber exports amounted to approximately 526.4 million dollars in the period January-October 2019. For the fiber exports on the basis of sub-product groups in this period, the most important sub-product group was synthetic-artificial fibers, which accounted for 324 million dollars worth of exports and accounted for 61.6% of total fiber exports.

Italy is the most important country in the export of knitted fabrics

Knitted fabric exports amounted to approximately 1.3 billion dollars in the first ten months of this year. Italy was also the most important country in the export of knitted fabrics in the same period with 182.4 million dollars worth of exports.

Nonwovens have a high market share in technical textile exports

Technical textile exports in the January-October 2019 period reached 1.45 billion dollars. In this period, for the technical textile exports on the basis of product groups, the most important product group was nonwoven with an increase of 2.3% and a total value of 497.6 million dollars. Germany was the most important country in the export of technical textiles with exports of about 118.8 million dollars in this period.
