Latest Innovations in the Field of Textiles with ICONTEX and ICONWOOLF
Textile Engineering Department of Tekirdağ Namık Kemal University gathered the textile industry and academicians under one roof at ICONTEX 2019, the 2nd International Congress of Innovative. The congress was held with over 82 oral presentations and 20 flyer presentations from 12 different countries and attended by more than 200 people. The congress aimed to bring together researchers, academicians, engineers and industry representatives from all over the world to promote advanced technologies and innovation in the textile field.
Professor Fatma Göktepe, Chairwoman of the Congress Organizing Committee made a statement about the congress, which aims to share the innovations in textile indsutry, “As the Textile Engineering Department at Namık Kemal University’s Çorlu Faculty of Engineering, we have been delighted to organize this scientific congress. Dr. Fatma Göktepe, mek We, as Namık Kemal University, Corlu Faculty of Engineering, Textile Engineering Department, organized this scientific congress. Moving in a dynamic and ever-evolving structure, the textile industry continues its development with innovative works carried out in the field. Today, the high value-added production processes starts with innovation. Together with our colleagues in the Organizing Committee, we aimed to share the latest innovations in the field of textiles with our industry.”
In the congress held the second time in the region, results of various researches were presented in a wide range of research including textile chemistry, textile technologies, nanotechnology applications, quality control, apparel and modeling, and simulation. The congress aimed to demonstrate the textile industry’s achievements in the 21st century, and to create a common platform, where the industry representatives and academicians share the results of new researches.

In his opening speech at the second edition of the International Innovative Textiles Congress, İbrahim Pektaş, Deputy Chairman of Turkey’s Exporters Assembly said, “Our mission as Exporters Union is to be a country with foreign trade surplus. Exports is the most important element in the development of Turkey. We aim to become a country exporting more in the textile market.”
One of the most mentioned issues at the opening of the congress was carbon fibers. Adil Nalbant, Chairman of the Textile Machinery and Accessories Industrialists Association, said “We are one of the six countries that produce carbon fibers. While Turkey is such advanced in textiles and engineering, we should avoid losing this skill. We should focus on innovative works and improve our perspective on textiles. Success runs in our people’s blood. As long as people are given an opportunity.”
Another speaker, Ahmet Şişman, Vice Chairman of Istanbul Textile and Raw Materials Exporters Association and also General Manager of Hassan Tekstil, said that “The Turkish companies should focus on carbon fibers. Carbon fiber is the natural resource in our country and efforts in this area should be increased.”
International Wool and Luxury Fiber Congress Held First Time in Turkey
Textile Engineering Department at Çorlu Engineering Faculty of Tekirdağ Namık Kemal University held the “ICONWOOLF2019, International Wool and Luxury Fibers Congress at Çorlu Hilton Hotel on April 19, 2019. In the congress where 40 oral presentations from 10 different countries were presented, to share the latest trends and innovation in the wool sector; researchers, and academicians, public institutions and industry representatives came together.
Aiming to share the innovations in the field of wool and luxury fibers, the congress, held for the first time, started with the opening speech of Professor Rıza Atav, Chairman of the Congress Organizing Comittee, said that Dr. “As the Textile Engineering Department at Namık Kemal University, we are proud to hold this international scientific congress for a very specific area in Turkey. This congress is a rare event in the world on wool and luxury fibers, and it is the first of its kind in Turkey. Together with our colleagues in the Organizing Committee eminent researchers from Turkey as well as from 17 different countries from Australia to Peru, 40 presentations are submitted from 10 countries, and was attended by 150 people from all over the world, the congress aims to share with our industry the innovations on wool and luxury fibers.”
In the congress, academicians from Turkey and all over the world presented the results of their researches on various areas including fiber science and technology, dying and finishing, testing and analysis, and sustainability. In addition, several companies shared their work carried out at their R&D and Design centers. The congress aimed to present the achievements of the wool industry, the latest trends in this field, and to create a common platform where public institutions, industry and academics come together.
