This ensures sustainability for production and productivity. From Electrical and Electronics Engineering to Textile Industry
İrfan Yolcular, General Manager of Nit Örme, who finished primary school and secondary school in a village school in Elazığ, continued his education in technical high school in Ankara. Having graduated from the Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering at Hacettepe University, Yolcular started to produce yarn in the textile industry for the first time at Akal plant. Taking part in the foundation of Ören Bayan plant and then serving as a maintenance engineer for 5 years, Yolcular worked as a director at Tetaş for 5 years. Later, he founded Nit Örme, a company which continues its activities with great skill.
What distinguishes Yolcular from other company owners is his attachement of a great importance on education. But beneath this underlie deep reasons. Having moved to Istanbul from Ankara without anything, Yolcular now continues to serve in the industry with the determination of his work. Starting his career as an intern at an electrician’s workplace in 1974, Yolcular had been let go without even working 10 days, with his internship document signed. Deciding to enter that factory one day as an engineer, Yolcular later realized his dream in 1985. “If someone could help me, I could finish my internship there.” says Yolcular, who is today helping everyone trying to go through that door. He employes interns both in summers and winters, and provides scholarships for them.
In this month`s issue of Textile Technology magazine, we hosted Nit Örme and conducted a productive interview with General Manager İrfan Yolcular. Enjoy reading.
Could you tell us about the development process of your company starting from its establishment?
Our establishment started in 1995 with the production of contracted production of knitwears. We also provided technical support and design services. Later we decided to manufacture spare parts. In 2005, we gave up on knştwear production to focus solely on manufacturing spare parts. Now we offer all the services the knitwear industry needs.
What features do you consider important in your products and in your product portfolio?
We attach great importance to the quality of our products. For this reason, we use the highest quality raw materials. Although our competitors use cheaper raw materials, we are selling products at the same price. We provide value added solutions by providing customer satisfaction. We have rich inventory of electronic components. For example, when an electronic card fails, it is not enough to find the error, but it is necessary to find that particular material. We ensure that the material we need is also in our inventory.
Do you have production specific to company needs?
Of course. For example, a large well-known company could not continue their operation because they used very fine yarns which their machines could not process. This problem continued until they started using the brushes we made specifically for their machines. Then there was no more problem. For such cases, we also provide special productions for our customers.
To which countries and how many countries do you export the most?
We export to about 40 countries. Our biggest importers are in China. Our second largest market will be Bangladesh. We aim to increase exports by producing quality products with affordable costs. We continue to reach our targets with our efficient work.
What distinguishes you from your competitors in terms of technical support?
Our biggest difference, which distinguishes us from our competitors, is our ability to provide our customers with the right pieces whenever they want. In this regard, we manufacture about 7,000 kinds of products. Our products reach the farthest place in the world within two or three days. As we have the latest technological machines in our electronic departments, we employ engineers from TUBITAK to fix errors . We produce know-how solutions, and we are also getting successful results in that. We reverse-engineer the errors in the cards that the companies send us. We help big companies develop by producing solutions such as card repair and spare parts at reasonable prices.
Can you tell us about your R&D center?
We started an initiative for the R&D center. All our activities involve the R&D department. We think of how we can improve our products when we face problems in production and we try to be useful to our country by creating solutions. Our aim is to manufacture all the products in Turkey, and that will not be just in the textile industry. We will also invest in R&D in different areas. We will train people from Bangladesh and India, and put them in charge of the job in their respective countries.
What are your contributions as Nit Örme to value-added production?
We can say that not making money is the biggest obstacle in the knitwear industry as the costs are quite high. Then either you have to get out of this indutry or create value in the industry. As Nit Örme, we acknowledge this and focus on education of people. We aim to mabufacture value-added products here with cooperation with universities and industries. As part of the social responsibility projects, we offer free applied pattern design trainings. We have provided training for up to 250 people in our pattern design department. Our trainees with the Knitwear Pattern Design Certificate have found job in the industry.
Could you talk about the social responsibility project for supervised release?
It is a social responsibility project we carry out together with the Istanbul Directorate of Supervised Release and Knitwear Industrialists Association (TRİSAD). With this project, we aim to gain prisoners on probation to the society. There are 600,000 thousand prisoners on probation across Turkey, 100,000 of whom are in Istanbul, and they have to work 4 hours in government departments. We provide training for them. So when fulfill this requirement, their supervised release obligation ends. This way they get paid and companies’ need to find machine and stenter operators is met. Now we are thinking of turning our course into a human factory. Mustafa Balkuv, President of TRİSAD is currently active in this initiative. A new building is being arranged in Sarıyer. We will train people needede not only in the knitwear industry but also for other industries such shoes, socks, and CNC operators.
