73-Year-Old Denim Manufacturer Orta Anadolu to Close Kayseri Production Facilities
Orta Anadolu, a long-established Turkish denim manufacturer supplying globally renowned brands such as Levi’s and Mavi, has halted its production operations in Kayseri, citing challenging global textile industry conditions and an unsustainable business model. The company announced that all its production facilities will be permanently closed as of 12 October 2026.
Founded in 1953, Orta Anadolu Ticaret ve Sanayi İşletmesi T.A.Ş. has decided to end its production operations in Kayseri after 73 years of industrial activity. One of Türkiye’s established companies in premium denim fabric manufacturing, the company announced in a corporate statement dated 11 September 2026 that production activities had been suspended as of the same date, while all production facilities would be completely closed from 12 October 2026.
Since 1986, Orta Anadolu has supplied denim fabrics to leading global brands, producing for more than 300 jean brands, including Levi’s, Mavi, Lee, Wrangler, Diesel, Replay, Guess, Mustang, Super Rifle and Miss Sixty.
Global Conditions Make Business Model Unsustainable
In its statement, Orta Anadolu noted that the global textile industry has faced significant challenges in recent years due to weakening demand, rising operational and financing costs, fluctuations in supply chains and changing trade dynamics.
The company stated that it had undertaken comprehensive efforts to address these conditions, including cost-reduction initiatives, operational efficiency measures and restructuring assessments. However, despite all these efforts, it concluded that its existing business model was not sustainable under current economic conditions.
Accordingly, the Board of Directors decided to suspend production activities at the Kayseri facilities as of 11 September 2026. All of the company’s production facilities are planned to be completely closed as of 12 October 2026.
Cooperation with Stakeholders on Commercial Obligations
Orta Anadolu announced that it would work closely with all its stakeholders throughout the closure process to fulfil its existing commercial obligations responsibly and transparently.
In its statement, the company thanked its employees, customers, financial institutions and suppliers for their contributions to its 73-year journey. Orta Anadolu’s management emphasised the company’s long industrial history and the relationships it had built with its business partners, stating that the closure process would be conducted in line with its corporate values.
“Orta Anadolu’s Decision Is Sad for the Industry”
An article published by Economim columnist Vahap Munyar on 14 September 2026 included comments from Adil Sani Konukoğlu, Chairman of the Board of Sanko Holding, Chairman of the Gaziantep Chamber of Industry Assembly and Chairman of the TOBB Turkish Textile Industry Council.
Describing Orta Anadolu’s decision as sad for the industry, Konukoğlu drew attention to the company’s long history and position in the sector, stating: “A company with so many years behind it… A leading company in its sector… It is unfortunate that it has come to this.”
Çalık Denim Continues Premium Production
Another industry representative commenting on Orta Anadolu’s decision to halt production was Ahmet Çalık, Chairman of the Board of Çalık Holding.
Çalık described Orta Anadolu as one of the established and respected companies in the Turkish textile and denim industry, highlighting its long-standing contributions to the sector and the production culture it had created.
Ahmet Çalık also provided an update on Çalık Denim’s current operations, stating that the company continues to manufacture premium denim fabrics with its production infrastructure, technology, product development capabilities and quality approach in Malatya.
He explained that Çalık Denim focuses on creating added value across the entire value chain, from cotton and yarn to weaving, finishing and product development, rather than concentrating solely on fabric manufacturing. He added that providing customers with innovative, high-quality and competitive products remains the company’s fundamental responsibility.
Emphasising that the global textile industry is undergoing a significant transformation and that competitive conditions for manufacturers in Türkiye have become more challenging, Çalık stated that Çalık Denim would continue to strengthen its position in premium denim, maintain its production activities and contribute value to the national economy.
