Realteks Denim to Produce ‘Regenerative’ Cotton in Çukurova
Realteks, which produces denim fabric for world-famous clothing brands, will grow cotton with regenerative agriculture that improves the soil. Vice General Manager Egemen Denli said that they will make pilot production on 17 decares of land in Adana this year.
According to the news in Ekonomim newspaper; Realteks Denim, which manufactures in Adana Hacı Sabancı Organised Industrial Zone (AOSB) in an area of 24 thousand square metres, 20 thousand of which is closed, started a project to use cotton obtained by regenerative agriculture method as raw material.
“We have Chosen Options that Do Not Harm the Environment at all”
Egemen Denli, Vice General Manager of Realteks Denim, stated that they have been supplying cotton from different parts of the country and the world for 16 years and said the following: “We have based our production philosophy on production with high-quality and sustainable raw materials. While using energy resources such as water, electricity and natural gas in the most efficient way during production, we have also focused on options that do the least or even no harm to nature in the selection of raw materials. The damage to nature is increasing day by day due to excessive water consumption and unconscious use of fertilizers and pesticides during the production of conventional cotton. That’s why we changed our sourcing strategy towards sustainable cotton. We decided to develop a project to grow our own sustainable cotton on our own land. First of all, we started producing our own regenerative cotton with a low water and carbon footprint by transforming our soil into its pure form without damaging the fertile soil of Çukurova. After completing the pilot production this year, we will expand regenerative cotton production to thousands of acres in the following years, protecting our soil, supporting our farmers in the region and ensuring the traceability of our supply chain.”
“Many Famous Brands Prefer Fabric Made from Regenerative Cotton”
Stating that they collaborated with Çukurova University Faculty of Agriculture and the Department of Textile Engineering in the regenerative cotton production pilot project, Denli emphasized that consumers in developed countries demand environmentally friendly products from clothing brands.
Denli said, “Regenerative cotton production is mainly carried out in Australia and Brazil. Many famous brands now prefer fabrics produced from this cotton. We are happy to be a pioneer in Çukurova.”
Karataş District Governor Necati Aktan, Adana Provincial Agriculture and Forestry Deputy Director Ali Kansu Öztürk, Çukurova University Faculty Members Prof. Dr. Dilek Bostan Budak and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Füsun Doba Kadem also attended Realteks Denim’s regenerative pilot cotton planting ceremony on 17 thousand square meters of land in the Karataş district of Adana.
