Turkish Textile Meets with Global Buyers in Paris
The textile industry participated in Premiere Vision, one of the world’s largest textile fairs, held in France, with approximately 200 Turkish companies.
Ahmet Öksüz, Chairman of The Board of Istanbul Textile and Raw Materials Exporters’ Association (İTHİB), said, “We came together with many buyers at the fair after the epidemic. These fairs are of great importance in order to increase the value-added exports of our industry.”
The textile industry, which reached the historical record of the Republic by closing the last year with 12.9 billion dollars of exports and exporting 1 billion dollars in the first month of the year is now focusing to increase its exports in 2022. GMO-Free Turkish Cotton Project Introduced in Paris
Stating that they presented the Non-GMO Cotton Project at the fair, Öksüz said: “All of the cotton produced in Turkey is produced as non-GMO and Turkey is the world’s largest producer of non-GMO cotton. In order to ensure the branding of non-GMO cotton production, we launched a global promotion attack with our industry stakeholders. We continue our project in order to increase the chance of competition by creating a privileged brand for Turkish textile and thus to provide a more preferred status to Turkish cotton production. We exhibited our GMO-Free Cotton Project at the PV Paris Fair, which we participated as an industry. Our “GMO Free Turkish Cotton” project, which was initiated by the Izmir Commodity Exchange and the National Cotton Council, will gain momentum in 2022. We aimed to reach wider audiences by promoting our project at the fair and received positive feedback.”
1 Billion Dollars Worth of Export from The Textile Sector in January
Öksüz shared his evaluations on the economic indicators of the textile industry and said, “We came together with many global buyers at the Premier Vision Paris Fair with the National Participation Organization we held with the support of our Ministry of Commerce. The fairs we organize in order to increase the value-added exports of our industry are of great importance. As an industry, we have made 1 billion dollars of exports in the first month of 2022. Compared to last year, we achieved an increase of 11 percent. The top 3 countries to which we exported the most in this period were Italy, the USA and Germany. The Capacity Utilization Rate of our sector in January is at the level of 80.5 percent.”
“The industrial production index of our sector, on the other hand, renews its own record every month. Our textile industry production index in November is increased by 13 percent and reached the level of 151.1. As the textile industry, we will continue to contribute to our country’s economy. We will move our industry forward with the projects we will realize in 2022. Our goal is to set a new record with exports worth $15 billion at the end of the year.”. Öksüz stated.
