Boyner Contributes to Women’s Employment with Handcrafted Products
Boyner, which carries out many different projects for gender equality and empowerment of women in all areas of life, came together with women from Akyazı, Sakarya for its new project.
Produced for ‘Fabrika’, one of Boyner’s private brands, 6,500 bags made of natural wooden beads by the hand labor of 60 housewifes living in Sakarya, took their place in Boyner stores and online platform boyner.com.tr.
Last year, in order to strengthen women employment, Fabrika brand prepared a special collection of slippers produced with macrame technique with women living in Akhoca Village of Keşan, Edirne. This year, while the same project continued in Edirne, a brand new project was launched in Akyazı, Sakarya. In the bag project designed with wooden beads; 8 different models were revived in the hands of talented women and turned into stylish and natural bags that can be used at any time of the day.
Nurçin Koçoğlu, Assistant General Manager of Boyner Marketing and Brand Management, “We direct our sustainability efforts in line with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. We have long been one of the brands that support gender equality on every platform and try to raise awareness on this issue. We realized one of our projects in this field for our Fabrika brand last year and produced 10 thousand pairs of slippers with the talented hands of 20 women. Producer women, some of whom had never earned their own income before, were employed through the project. Our project, which is produced with the hand labor of women in Edirne, continues with new models this year. In terms of the sustainability of our project, this year we met with housewives from Akyazı, Sakarya.
“All the Women Who Worked Hard for the Project are Very Valuable”
Underlining that they took action to reach more women in the second year of the project, Koçoğlu said; “We have not given up our excitement to reach more women in the second year of the project. Thus, the beads, which were specially designed in the wood production workshop in Sakarya and met with the hand crafted by housewives, turned into special bags. We will be with the women who produced a total of 6,500 bags, all of which are completely handcrafted, tomorrow as we are today. We are happy to meet the women in our project and bring their handcrafts together with fashion and realized their dreams. They showing their courage, time and most importantly they set their hearts on this project. They contributed to the family economy with the wooden beads and bags they produced. All the women who worked Hard for the project are very valuable.
Mentioning the changing consumer trends especially in the last few years, Koçoğlu said; “Today, we know that more importance is given to naturality. Products using natural materials, comfortable and natural colors are more commonly preferred. We work with a customer profile that likes to listen to the story of the product it chooses and questions the contribution of the product and brand to the world and society. In our project, which we launched with this goal, we wanted to explain that we support women in all areas of life while defending naturalness.
