Approximately 10 Billion Dollars of Textile Exports from Turkey in 2023
Turkey’s textile and raw materials sector exports approached 10 billion dollars in December 2023. According to the data of the Turkish Exporters Assembly (TİM); textile and raw materials sector sent products to 199 countries and free zones in 2023. Exporters of the sector earned 9 billion 558 million 447 thousand dollars in return for 2 million 329 thousand 985 tons of products.
In 2023, Turkish textile and raw materials exports decreased by 0.8% on quantity basis compared to the same period of the previous year and reached 2.6 million tons. In the same period, the highest exports were made to EU (27) countries with 4.6 billion dollars. In 2023, the second country group with the highest exports of textile and raw materials was African countries. Exports to African countries reached 1.2 billion dollars in this period.
The Highest Exports of Textile and Raw Materials to Italy
In 2023, Italy was the most important export market. Textile and raw materials exports to Italy decreased by 24.9% to approximately 847 million dollars. In terms of quantity, textile and raw materials exports to Italy decreased by 19% to 171 thousand tons. Exports worth approximately 803 million dollars were exported to Germany in second place. Exports to Germany decreased by 19.4% to 147 thousand tons. In 2023, 141 thousand tons of exports were made to the USA, the third largest export market. In 2023, when textile and raw materials exports were analyzed on quantity basis, the country where exports increased the most was China, the world’s largest textile exporter. Exports of textiles and raw materials to China increased by 129.3% in this period and reached approximately 98 thousand tons.
Approximately 6 Billion Dollars of Fabric Exports from Turkey
In 2023, the product group with the highest exports was woven fabric with a share of 20.6%. The sector earned the most revenue from fabric with 5 billion 947 million 998 thousand dollars. The most important sub-product group was woven fabric exports from synthetic artificial filament yarns with a share of 40.3% and an export value of 968 million dollars. While 36.7% of Turkey’s woven fabric exports were realized to EU countries, exports to these countries decreased by 10.4% in 2023 to 883 million dollars.
Turkey Exported 2.2 Billion Dollars of Technical Textiles in 2023
In 2023, technical textiles, the second most exported product group, decreased by 7.1% and exports amounted to 2.2 billion dollars. In 2023, it was observed that 30.3% of total exports were composed of the non-woven textile product group. In this period, exports of nonwovens reached 664 million dollars. The second most important product group in technical textile exports was bags and sacks for packaging made of technical textiles with a share of 13.9% of total exports. In 2023, Turkey’s exports of the related product group decreased by 21.6% to 305 million dollars.
The third product group was wadding and felts with a share of 8.3% in total technical textile exports in 2023. Turkey’s exports of the related product group increased by 27% in 2023 and reached 182 million dollars. Looking at the top 10 countries in Turkey’s technical textile exports, it was observed that the largest export market was Germany with 158 million dollars of exports. The USA was second with 154 million dollars and Italy was third with 143 million dollars.
Yarn Exports Declined by 17% in 2023
Exports of yarn, the third most important product group, decreased by 17.1% in 2023 to approximately 2 billion dollars. It was observed that the most important sub-product group was yarns from synthetic artificial filament fibers with an export value of 817 million dollars. The exports of the second largest sub-product group, yarns from synthetic-artificial non-stop fibers, with a share of 31.8% of total yarn exports, decreased by 14% in 2023 to 668 million dollars.
In 2023, the most important country in yarn exports was Italy, which exported 218 million dollars worth of yarn, while yarn exports to Italy decreased by 31.3% in this period. In 2023, other important countries in yarn exports were the UK, the USA and Egypt. Exports to European Union countries, where 44.5% of Turkey’s yarn exports were realized, reached 933 million dollars in 2023.
The Third Most Exported Product Group; Knitted Fabric
In 2023, knitted fabric exports decreased by 5.9% to 1.9 billion dollars. The most important sub-product group was other knitted fabrics with an export value of 1.2 billion dollars. The share of other knitted fabric product group in total knitted fabric exports is 64.4%. The second sub-product group is knitted fabrics containing elastomeric or rubber yarns with a share of 26.7% in total exports. In 2023, the most important country in knitted fabric exports was Italy, which realized 198 million dollars worth of exports. Knitted fabric exports to Italy decreased by 19% in this period. In 2023, other important countries that stand out in knitted fabric exports; Bulgaria, Morocco and Kyrgyzstan.
Most Denim Fabric Exports to Tunisia
In 2023, Turkey’s denim fabric exports decreased by 16.7% to 246 million dollars. The most important country in denim fabric exports was Tunisia with approximately 51 million dollars worth of exports and 17.5% share. Egypt ranked 2nd with 17.5% share and 43 million dollars worth of exports, while Morocco ranked 3rd with 9.5% share and 23.4 million dollars worth of exports.
Home Textiles Exports Totaled 1.9 Billion Dollars
In 2023, home textiles decreased by 14.4% to approximately 1.9 billion dollars. When analyzed on the basis of sub-product groups, it was seen that the most important product group was towels and cleaning cloths with a share of 31.3%. Turkey’s exports of towels and cleaning cloths decreased by 15.7% in this period and amounted to 591 million dollars. In 2023, home textile exports to Germany, the most important country in home textile exports, decreased by 16.6% to 335 million dollars.
Fiber Exports Increased by 4.4
In 2023, exports of fiber, one of the sub-product groups that increased, increased by 4.4% to 1.2 billion dollars. The most important sub-product group was cotton fiber with a 54.1% share. In this period, cotton fiber exports increased by 44% to 658 million dollars. The second most exported sub-product group is synthetic fiber with a share of 43.9%. In 2023, the most important country in Turkey’s fiber exports was Iran, which had a 15.2% share in total fiber exports with 185 million dollars of exports. Fiber exports to Iran increased by 9.7% compared to 2022. Other important countries in fiber exports were China, Vietnam and Germany.
