Turkey’s Hosiery Exports Reached 1.3 Billion Dollars in 2022
Within the scope of the report such as, knitted or crochet hosiery made of cotton, synthetic-artificial fibers, or other materials suitable for weaving, the categories of long hosiery, pantyhose, tights, and knee-high hosiery, were included.
Turkey’s hosiery exports reached 1.3 billion dollars in 2022. Turkey exported 21.2 billion dollars of ready-to-wear and garment exports in 2022. Hosiery products accounted for 6.3% of this total. While ready-to-wear and garment exports grew by 4.8% in 2022 compared to the previous year, hosiery exports closed the year with an increase of 1.8%. Turkey’s most exported hosiery product was cotton knitted or crochet hosiery. While exports of this product increased by 3.1% to 822.1 million dollars in 2022, this product was followed by knitted or crocheted stockings made of synthetic fibers with an increase of 19.3% and an export value of 138.7 million dollars. In third place were cotton knitted or crochet pantyhose and tights with exports worth 91.9 million dollars. Turkey’s hosiery exports, which were around 1 billion 79 million dollars in 2018, rose to 1 billion 97 million dollars in 2019. Exports, which were around 1 billion 48 million dollars in 2020, reached 1 billion 312 million dollars in 2021 and 1 billion 335 million dollars in 2022.
“Germany is Turkey’s Biggest Market in Hosiery Exports”
Turkey’s largest hosiery export market was Germany. In 2022, 290 million dollars worth of exports were realized to Germany, the world’s second largest hosiery buyer, compared to the previous year. Hosiery products worth 245 million dollars were exported to England, which ranked second, and 139 million dollars to France, which ranked third. Other prominent countries in Turkey’s hosiery exports were the Netherlands with 94 million dollars of exports, Spain with 58 million dollars of exports, the USA with 54 million dollars of exports, and Sweden with 48 million dollars of exports. These countries were followed by Italy with 45 million dollars, Poland with 27 million dollars and Slovakia with 24 million dollars.
Turkey is the World’s Second Largest Hosiery Exporter
Among the world’s most important hosiery importers are the USA, Germany, Japan, France and the UK. Turkey ranks 59th among the world’s top hosiery importers with only 17 million dollars worth of hosiery imports in 2021. Turkey, which is the world’s second largest hosieryexporter with a share of 8.8%, increased its hosiery exports by 25.2% to 1.3 billion dollars in 2022 compared to the previous year.
In 2021, cotton hosiery, the world’s most exported hosiery product, accounted for 42.9% of the group’s total exports. This product group was followed by other hosiery made of synthetic fibers with a share of 31.1% and other pantyhose and tights made of synthetic fibers with a share of 7%. In world hosiery exports, the volume of cotton hosiery increased to 6.3 billion dollars, the volume of hosiery made of synthetic fibers increased to 4.6 billion dollars, the volume of pantyhose and tights made of synthetic fibers increased to 1 billion dollars, the volume of pantyhose and tights made of other materials suitable for weaving increased to 695 million dollars, and the volume of hosiery with graded printing increased to 535 million dollars.
China ranks first in hosiery exports with 6.3 billion dollars, while Turkey ranks second with 1.3 billion dollars in exports. These two countries are followed by Germany with 778 million dollars, Italy with 691 million dollars, the Netherlands with 611 million dollars and Pakistan with 526 million dollars.
2023 Hosiery Exports Reached 995,828 dollars in January – October Period
In the January-October 2023 period, Turkey’s total hosiery exports amounted to 995,828 dollars. The country that exported the most hosiery was Germany with 205,263 dollars. The United Kingdom ranked second with 179,376 dollars, while France ranked third with 126,906 dollars in exports. While exports of 64,624 dollars were made to the Netherlands in the fourth place, 40,720 dollars were exported to Spain in the fifth place. The total amount of the first twenty countries with the highest exports was 849,652 dollars. Turkey had a share of 12.13% in knitted garment exports of hosiery.
