Dyeing-Finishing Machinery Constitutes 75 Percent of Turkish Textile Machinery Exports
The Turkish textile finishing industry initially developed as the dyeing and finishing unit of integrated textile mills. Over time, advancements in garment industry exports and especially the rapid increase in exports of knitted goods led to the establishment and development of textile finishing industry enterprises that directly serve ready-to-wear garment manufacturers. Today, the dyeing and finishing facilities in Turkey have reached a high level of capacity and technological sophistication in terms of quality, employment and sectoral know-how, and are ahead of many of their competitors in the world in terms of quality.
There are more than 600 textile finishing enterprises in Turkey
The ‘finishing sector’, which has an important place in the Turkish economy due to the added value it provides to the textile industry, employment and the sector’s share in exports, is also known as the dynamo of the textile and apparel industry. More than 600 enterprises operate in the field of textile finishing in Turkey. In addition, an average of 250 people can be employed in a textile finishing facility. The total employment of the sector is around 150 thousand people. These textile finishing facilities have the capacity to produce 20-25 tons per day.
The textile finishing industry in Turkey is mainly clustered in the regions of Thrace, Bursa, Denizli, Adana, Kahramanmaraş and each region is specialized according to the products it produces. While the Thrace region specializes in knitted fabrics, the Bursa region specializes in woven fabrics, the Denizli region in home textiles, the Adana region in synthetic weaving, and the Kahramanmaraş region mainly in knitting and weaving.
Despite the pandemic, investments in the global textile industry did not slow down. According to the 44th Annual International Textile Machinery Shipment Statistics (ITMSS) published by the International Textile Manufacturers Federation (ITMF), significant growth figures were achieved in 2021 compared to 2020, when the first shock wave of the pandemic was experienced. In 2021, global shipments of spinning, texturing, weaving, knitting and finishing machinery increased sharply compared to the previous year.

Global Stenter Machine Shipments Estimated to Increase by 78
In the ‘continuous fabrics’ segment, shipments of tensionless dryers/drum increased by 183%. All other sub-segments increased between 33-88%, except for dyeing lines, which declined. Dyeing lines were down between 16-85%. Since 2019, ITMF has been releasing its estimates for stenter shipment figures, which are not fully disclosed by survey participants. Accordingly, global stenter shipments are projected to increase by 78% in 2021, reaching a total of 2,750 units.
In the ‘non-continuous fabrics’ segment, the jigger dyeing / beam dyeing order shipped increased by 105% to 1,081 units. Deliveries in the air jet dyeing and overflow dyeing categories increased by 24% in 2021 to 1,232 and 1,647 units, respectively.
Turkey Paid 300 Million Dollars for Dyeing and Finishing Machinery in 2021
Turkey is among the leading global playmakers in textile machinery, especially in dyeing and finishing machinery. The Turkish textile machinery sector exported 955 million dollars in 2021 and the export volume increased by 27.3 percent compared to the previous year. Approximately 75 percent of our exports consist of dyeing and finishing machinery. Turkey’s largest export markets include Uzbekistan, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Egypt, Iran, Russia and India. Turkey paid 300 million dollars for dyeing, washing, drying and finishing machines in 2021.
