Gürmen Group Meets 100% of Its Energy Needs from Renewable Sources
Operating in ready-to-wear retail, energy, agriculture, and technology, Gürmen Group—one of Türkiye’s leading conglomerates with over 50 years of experience—has published its first Sustainability Report.
With its Maspo Energy investment, the Group meets all of its energy needs from 100% renewable sources, making a difference in the fashion industry with eco-friendly production processes and innovative products. The report details concrete steps toward sustainability, ranging from rural development support projects to energy efficiency initiatives.
Gürmen Group Publishes Its First Sustainability Report!
Gürmen Group, one of Türkiye’s leading fashion and manufacturing groups, has unveiled its 2024 Sustainability Report for the first time, presenting its sustainability vision with concrete actions. Covering the year 2024, the report includes environmental, social, and economic indicators across its stores and production facilities, as well as related financial performance and international operations. With the Maspo Energy investment, the Group meets 100% of its energy needs from renewable sources, and with this achievement, became the first Turkish fashion group to be accepted into the global RE100 platform, which comprises only companies that use renewable energy exclusively. Maspo Energy’s 40 MW installed capacity and annual 350 GWh production enable Gürmen Group to run its operations entirely on renewable sources.
An Eco-Friendly Transformation Journey from Energy to Logistics
Gürmen Group strengthens its energy efficiency efforts with the LED transition implemented across all locations. The LED transition projects have significantly reduced the Group’s carbon footprint. The transformation in factories began in 2022 and was completed in 2023, while in stores it concluded in 2024. At the headquarters, LED transition reached 85%, and at the warehouse, 70%.
Gürmen Group extends its sustainability vision beyond energy by developing eco-friendly practices in fashion production. Natural fibers, organic fabrics, recycled materials, and low chemical use stand out in production processes, while washable suits and organic shirts produced with a circular economy approach have taken their place in collections.
As of 2024, Gürmen Group has begun opening stores with an environmentally conscious logistics approach. Thanks to this new model, at the Ayvalık store opening in the last quarter of the year, 9,750 liters of water were saved, and 112.5 kg of carbon emissions were prevented. Within the scope of the Milk Run Green Logistics Project, reusable green boxes replaced single-use cartons in logistics operations.
Innovative Products and Patents that Make a Difference in Fashion Technology
The Group also differentiates itself with its investments in innovation. Gürmen Group makes a mark in the fashion industry with innovative products such as non-iron shirts, heated jackets, pillow jackets, stain-resistant shirts, and suits 50% lighter than conventional ones; while also standing out with its patents such as ZeroWeight, Seamless outerwear, and Silver Lining. Developed in 2022, the RAMSEY Cap Connect product, which was included in Marketing Türkiye’s “Innovative Products of the Year” list, is a first in the field of wearable technology.
Exports to 20 Countries: 25% of Gürmen Group’s Revenue Comes from Abroad
As a strong export player in the fashion industry, Gürmen Group exports its collections to 20 countries, deriving 25% of its total revenue from exports. With an export value per kilogram four times higher than Türkiye’s average, its production facility—one of Europe’s strongest manufacturing centers—forms the foundation of the Group’s global strength.
Sustainability in Rural Areas with Kastamonu and Karacasu Investments
Supporting rural development through investments in agriculture and livestock, Gürmen Group produces 20 tons of milk daily at its Gökkale Farm in Kastamonu. Additionally, with the biogas plant established on the farm, 3.5 tons of organic fertilizer are obtained daily, contributing both to environmental sustainability and efficient production. In Aydın Karacasu, the Group’s 5.5 million square meter olive groves are used to produce high-quality olive oil under the Vievi brand, bringing the products directly to consumers.
Statement from Gürmen Clothing Chairwomen Yasemin Gür Solmaz: “We have reached a new milestone in our half-century journey, which began in London and took root in our homeland with our first factory in Kastamonu. This report is a concrete reflection of our principle ‘we always do what is right’ and of our corporate culture of transparency.
For us, sustainability is not only about environmental responsibility; it forms the foundation of how we do business, our investments, and our innovations. While aiming to be active in the global market in the fashion sector, we are also leaving a mark on the future with our concrete steps in energy, production, and agriculture. Renewable energy, circular economy, and eco-friendly products are not only our goals; they are values we practice every day.
Every new collection, every innovative product is a sign of our effort to contribute not only to our customers but also to our environment, employees, and society. The energy efficiency projects in our factories, the organic production at Gökkale Farm, and the quality agricultural outputs from our olive groves in Aydın are tangible examples of this approach.
This report is a reflection of our principle ‘we always do what is right,’ and it is only the beginning of the journey we have embarked upon to achieve better. For us, sustainability is not a goal; it is an inseparable part of how we do business. Together with our employees, business partners, and customers, we will always strive for more on the path of sustainability.”
