Investment in Demirci Carpets from Aegean Exporters
Demirci carpets, which have been woven by the women of Demirci on carpet looms in their homes for hundreds of years, will be woven in factories in the organized industrial zone to be established in Demirci in the coming period and Aegean exporters will export this carpets to all over the world.
Aegean Textile and Raw Materials Exporters’ (ETHIB) launched the ‘Carpet Export Development P&D Project” with the participation of 20 carpet companies operating in the district in cooperation with the Demirci Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
Jak Eskinazi, President of the Aegean Textile and Raw Materials Exporters’ Association, stated that they first started needs analysis studies with the participation of 20 companies and noted that with the P&D Project, they aim to increase the competitiveness of the companies operating in the carpet sector in Demirci in international markets and to increase their share and awareness in global trade.
“Our Goal is to Increase Demirci’s Carpet Exports to Over 10 Million Dollars”
Stating that the Demirci district of Manisa is an important center for the production and export of wool carpets, Eskinazi said, “In Demirci , especially hand-woven carpets are woven with high quality wool yarns and are largely exported abroad. Carpets are exported from the district to more than 30 countries. According to 2023 data, 3 million dollars of export revenue was obtained from Demirci. Our aim with this project is to increase Demirci’s carpet exports to over 10 million dollars.”
Informing that they came together with the companies participating in the P&D Project at the Demirci Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Eskinazi continued his words as follows: “As ETHIB, we will support customer finding activities such as sectoral training and consultancy activities needed by the project participating companies, bilateral business meetings for target countries, delegation studies, and fair visits with our 85 years of experience. Turkiye has reached an annual volume of 2.4 billion dollars in carpet exports. We believe that with such projects, we will exceed 3 billion dollars in carpet exports in a short time.”
“Demirci OSB will Accelerate the Carpet Industry”
Demirci Chamber of Commerce and Industry President Kasım Kabak thanked the carpet manufacturers and exporters in Demirci for their support of the Aegean Textile and Raw Materials Exporters’ Association with the ‘Carpet Export Development P&D Project’ and stated that the Demirci Mixed Organized Industrial Zone, which is under construction in Demirci, will contribute to the strengthening of the clustering of the carpet industry.
Sharing that the final stage has been reached in the settlement plan studies in the 840-acre mixed Organized Industrial Zone (OIZ) and that it is open to pre-allocation, Kabak said, “Demirci is the 4th in Organized Industrial Zones investment incentives. On the territory location. OIZ, which has many advantages, is in an attractive position for investor companies that will produce due to the presence of male and female personnel who have worked in the textile and especially ready-to-wear sector for many years and have manual skills. In addition, companies that process forest products are in an advantageous position for product processing and packaging facilities due to the richness of agricultural products such as olives, walnuts, almonds, cherries, apples, jujubes, pistachios, chestnuts, etc., and milk and dairy products production, meat cutting, processing and packaging facilities due to the high number of large and small cattle in the district.
