Turkish Textile Sector Organized 3rd “I of The World” in New York
At the textile exhibition held at InterContinental Barclay New York, 33 leading fabric companies from Turkey exhibited their products to expand the market share of Turkish textiles in the US. Ahmet Öksüz, President of İstanbul Textile and Raw Materials Exporters’ Association (İTHİB), who shared his thoughts on the I of the World exhibition, which is the only sectoral export products exhibition organized by Turkey’s Exporters’ Associations, stated that the US textile market is very important for Turkey and said, ‘‘We reached the highest export data of all time by exporting 850 million dollars in 2021. Our target for 2022 is to exceed 1 billion dollars. The I of the World Exhibition we organized for this is of great importance.’’
Emphasizing that Turkey has the potential to enter the top 5 in fabric imports of the USA, Ahmet Öksüz continued: ‘‘I of the World’ is our textile products exhibition and a US-specific work. The USA is a very important market for us. We think we have a high potential to exceed 1 billion dollars. At the same time, our country is the 5th largest supplier of the world in the textile sector and we have a share of 3.6 percent from the world markets. But the share we get from US imports is 2.6. So we still have a potential here. In the short term, our goal is to increase our share above 3 percent.’’
‘‘Turkish Textile Exporters Are Very Successful’’
Jane Bong, senior representative of leading brands in the USA, remarked: ‘‘I have been coming here since the exhibition was started by İTHİB. I have done a lot of business with Turkish textile manufacturers. They have beautiful fabrics that have emerged over the years. Every year I meet with Turkish exporters and I must say that the fabrics have improved. Today I was impressed once again, the hand workmanship is very beautiful, it is good to work with Turkish exporters.” Emphasizing that the quality of Turkish textiles has improved over the years, Jane Bong continued her statements as follows: “Turkish Exporters have improved a lot over the years, what is important for me is the quality of the fabrics, the service, being able to do custom work, rapid and reliable delivery, of course working directly with the factories. Exporters are really great. That’s why I am very happy.’’
