Vatek Recovers 92 Percent of Water with Waste Water Treatment & Recycling System
Gürkan Volkan Takmaz, Founder of Vatek Çevre Teknolojileri
Vatek Çevre Teknolojileri, which started its journey 16 years ago with 2 employees in Şişli Perpa, has a wide range of products such as ‘Textile Wastewater Treatment & Recycling System’, ‘Hydroponic Greenhouse’, ‘River Water Treatment’, ‘Sea Water Reverse Osmosis Treatment’ and ‘Medical Water Treatment Systems’. Today, the company, which has dealers in England, Romania, Albania, Uzbekistan and Pakistan besides Turkey, carries out projects in 52 countries. Gürkan Volkan Takmaz, Founder of Vatek Çevre Teknolojileri, which we interviewed for our Tekstil Teknoloji magazine, said that with the increasing importance of nature and water resources after the pandemic, especially textile companies started to invest in wastewater recovery systems.
Can you please tell us about your product portfolio, areas of use and the sectors you serve?
Water is life itself, and we are present in every area where there is life. We provide services from agriculture to industry, from schools to factories, from the chemical industry to the textile industry. We can intervene in our systems in Somalia, Egypt or Azerbaijan in case of malfunction with remote monitoring. ‘Hydroponic Greenhouse’, ‘River Water Treatment’, ‘Sea Water Reverse Osmosis Treatment’ and ‘Medical Water Treatment Systems’ are included in our product range. We have started to provide intensive service to the textile industry, especially in the last 4 years, with waste water recycling systems that form the basis of sustainability efforts.

‘‘We Operate in 52 Countries’’
What are the countries/regions where your products are used? In this respect, can you provide information about your sales network and organization in the world?
Our products vary in line with the wishes and needs of our customers. For example, Iraq needs river water treatment due to its location. I would like to add here that we are an approved supplier of UNDP. We have 5 dealers abroad; England, Romania, Albania, Albania, Uzbekistan and Pakistan, which joined us in June. We are active in 52 countries from Europe to the Middle East, from the Balkans to Africa.
In today’s world where water resources are becoming scarce, wastewater recycling systems have become very important. What would you say about the importance of waste water recycling systems in the textile industry?
Water resources have been used as an inexhaustible resource by the textile industry and other industries for many years. The wastewater from the factories was discharged directly into nature without the necessary treatment processes. Textile factories have become one of the leading sectors in causing water pollution. Especially after the pandemic process, the importance of nature and especially water resources has emerged. There was an awareness that the industry should grow and work by taking sustainability logic into account.
Today, global brands have started to prefer factories that carry out sustainability studies and even make sustainability mandatory for their manufacturers. Therefore, factories that do not recycle their wastewater are no longer able to serve global brands as producers. Another important issue is the increase in water costs. Due to this increase, recycling wastewater has become a profitable investment for manufacturers.
Can you please tell us more about the projects you have developed for the textile industry and the success rates of these products?
We provide services to companies operating in the textile sector both in Turkey and abroad. Investments made especially in Istanbul and neighboring cities where water costs are high can pay for themselves in a period of 2 years. On the other hand, 90% of the wastewater is recovered with recycling, resulting in a significant reduction in the amount of water used from nature and the amount of wastewater discharged into nature. In the facilities we have built, consumable replacement times have become even more profitable for investors, as the good operation of the facilities is longer than the planned time.

‘‘Waste water Recycling system pays for itself in 6 months’’
What are the gains of the textile factory using the waste water Recycling system? Can you please tell us about the advantages of this system?
In Çorlu, our Textile Waste Water Treatment & Recycling System is located in Ereks-Blue Matters company. With the system we added to the system with additional capacity increase, 92% water is currently recovered.
In 2019, we built our Textile Waste Water Treatment & Recycling System for the company producing wet wipes in Lüleburgaz. This system paid for itself in 6 months and I am proud to say that we then increased the capacity of our system upon the request of the company. In short, the wastewater recycling facilities become a cost-reducing system for the company rather than being an additional burden for the company.
Due to the pressure from big brands, textile companies started to focus on waste water treatment systems. What is the latest situation in this field in Turkey and the world?
First of all, it is very important for both nature and humanity that textile is one of the sectors where water is used the most and that brands take this into account. Manufacturers know the importance of every drop we will leave for our future and act accordingly. Countries such as Pakistan, Bangladesh and Egypt, where the textile industry is dense, are also aware of the issue and textile wastewater recycling facilities have recently been demanded by companies in these countries. In short, if manufacturers want to work with world brands, they have to have textile wastewater recycling facilities built and operated.
As Vatek, you are building a new facility in Ankara. Can you please give us information about your new investments and your projects in 2023?
As Vatek, our motto is ‘‘We Treat The World’s Water’’. In order to achieve this goal, we are both increasing our number of employees and adding new ones to our production areas. The newest of these was our new factory in Ankara, where we started production activities in both the ongoing and completed areas. In our new factory, where we also aim to have an R&D center, we will continue our efforts to develop systems that create the most effective solution and systems that will provide advantages to investors in terms of cost. In 2023, when we aim to increase the number of countries we serve to 60, we plan to reach global suppliers with our new company established in the UK.
