Çabasan Textile Cleans Nature in the Process of Producing
The terms of trade with Europe will be reshaped within the framework of the green agreement that will be embraced by the EU in the forthcoming future. Textile, which causes high carbon emissions, has turned all eyes on itself as one of the sectors that will be most affected by carbon regulations. Because textile is the second-largest polluter in the world after the oil industry. 7 percent of total global emissions originate from the textile industry. About 20 thousand liters of water are consumed to produce just one t-shirt and jeans. In addition, the sector that is most ready to use nature-friendly technologies is the textile sector, which is the most suitable sector for the circular economy.

MILLIONS OF TONS OF CLOTHING ARE WASTED EVERY YEAR
Şahin Balcıoğlu, Chairman of the Board of BLC Group stated that 40 percent of its exports consist of recycled and organic production, continued his statement as follows, ‘‘The concept of fast fashion has reduced the life span of clothes to a level that can be expressed in almost months. The volume of used clothing that is thrown away every year is expressed in millions of tons. Transparency in the supply chain, environmentally friendly raw materials, environmentally friendly designs, traceability, and social compliance procedures constitute the basic building blocks of a sustainable journey for the future in textile.’’
‘‘WE HAVE BEEN MANUFACTURING WITH A CONSCIOUS FOR 20 YEARS’’
BLC Group aims to contribute to the sector’s awareness of sustainable textile production while producing organic and recycled products with environmentally friendly and innovative technologies. Balcıoğlu indicated that they started sustainable production in the early 2000s and continued his statement as follows, ‘‘At the beginning of the 2000s, when the chimney filter and wastewater biological treatment plant were not a legal obligation, we started these investments voluntarily and with our conscientious responsibility by bearing extra costs. For a long time, our European-focused business has always kept our perceptions of sustainable production open. Management of wastes originating from production, energy efficiency, process improvements with automated systems have been the most important items on our agenda for years. Compared to when we first started this process, we have reduced our carbon footprint by more than 70 percent.’’
Balcıoğlu says that they have signed an agreement with Gaziantep University Teknokent on recycling and circular economy.
