‘Ecological Textiles Ur-Ge Project’ Introduced to Companies
The introductory meeting of Ecological Textiles Ur-Ge Project prepared by Uludag Textile Exporters Association (UTİB) with the participation of 16 companies was held with the participation of the UTIB President, Pınar Taşdelen Engin.
In her speech, Engin stated that sustainability and environmentally friendly production paved the way for high value-added exports in the textile sector.
Stated that they are continuing their efforts without slowing down to reach their targets Engin expressed, “We have to come to a position that does not conforming standards, sets standards, directs the world textile. It’s not always enough to produce the best. In order to increase your competitiveness, you must also focus on the most environmentalist and most value-added production. Our Ecological Textiles Ur-Ge Project is one of the projects created within this framework.”
Stressing that effective use of resources is important for all industries because of declining natural resources and increasing world population, Engin said: “Everybody works for this and produces projects. Technological, ecological and social changes brought about changes in the norms of needs and brought the necessity of the industries to move towards sustainable, environmental strategies. As UTIB, we want our home textile and apparel fabrics sector to focus on ecological production. Because it is possible to increase our foreign trade revenues by making our production processes more environmentally friendly and in compliance with global norms.
Stating that a very small part of the project budget will be covered by the companies, Engin said, “We will first work on the needs analysis in the project, then we will provide consultancy services to the companies. The next step will be related to the international marketing network. 75 percent of the budget to be spent in these activities will be covered by the Ministry of Commerce and 25 percent by our companies.”
