Ege University Department of Textile Engineering Continues to Strengthen Collaboration with the Industry
The Department of Textile Engineering at Ege University (EU) Faculty of Engineering, which trains qualified engineers to meet the needs of the textile and apparel industry, contributes to the national economy with its strong university-industry collaboration model.
While continuing to provide the Turkish textile sector with highly qualified engineers, the Ege University Department of Textile Engineering also carries out scientific research on a global scale. Thanks to investments initiated under the leadership of Ege University Rector Prof. Dr. Necdet Budak, the department is equipped with advanced technologies and offers many opportunities to students through projects based on university-industry collaboration.
Prof. Dr. Zümrüt Bahadır Ünal, Head of the Department of Textile Engineering at the EU Faculty of Engineering, stated, “Our department was established in 1966 as a pioneering department in the field of textile engineering in Turkey. Since its inception, it has graduated nearly 5,000 students and continuously develops its education and research activities. With its strong academic staff and innovative educational approach, it maintains its leading position in the sector. The language of instruction in our department is 100% English. In the last two years of their education, students specialize in areas such as textile technology; yarn, weaving, knitting, textile chemistry and finishing, or apparel, based on their interests and abilities. Additionally, our students complete two mandatory internships during their studies, allowing them to apply theoretical knowledge in practice.”
“We Contribute to Our University’s Internationalization Vision”
Highlighting that the department ranked first in Turkiye according to the ARWU ranking prepared by Shanghai Ranking Consultancy, one of the world’s most respected university ranking organizations, Prof. Dr. Bahadır Ünal said, “The Department of Textile Engineering is one of only two universities from Turkiye that made it into the global top 50 in the ARWU ranking. It ranked 1st in Turkiye and 26th in the world. This international success is a testament to the quality of education, scientific contributions, and leadership in industry collaboration of the Ege University Department of Textile Engineering. Our department continues to supply qualified engineers to the Turkish textile industry while also standing out with its scientific research on a global scale. In line with our university’s internationalization vision, our department supports academic staff in their international assignments and works to increase the number of foreign faculty members at our university. Strengthening international academic interaction and providing our students with a global perspective are among our top priorities.”
“We Collaborate with Leading Industry Companies”
Stating that the Department of Textile Engineering continues to strengthen its collaboration with the industry, Prof. Dr. Bahadır Ünal added, “As the Department of Textile Engineering, we continue to add value to our students and academic studies through strong collaborations with the sector. In this context, we work closely with organizations such as the Aegean Apparel Exporters’ Association, the Aegean Clothing Manufacturers’ Association, the Ege University Textile Engineering Alumni Association, and leading companies in the industry. These collaborations facilitate our students’ integration into the sector, increase internship and employment opportunities, and allow us to develop joint projects within the scope of R&D and academic studies. Through our cooperation with industry, we produce solutions to sectoral needs, work on innovative textile technologies, and ensure the transformation of academic knowledge into practice. In this regard, we have developed numerous TUBITAK, European Union, and ERASMUS projects. As a department, we contribute to our university’s ‘Mobilization for Production’ initiative, launched under the leadership of our Rector Prof. Dr. Necdet Budak, through innovative projects. In line with our university’s student-centered education mission, we encourage our students to develop projects supported by TUBITAK and the Ministry of Youth and Sports and motivate them throughout this process. At the same time, we support our students in taking active roles in projects that benefit society through social responsibility initiatives and promote environmentally conscious and innovative approaches through course content in sustainable textiles and apparel.”
