A total of 49 awards and 68 export certificates of achievement were given in 4 categories: platinum, gold, silver, and bronze. In the program, which started with a presentation by Pınar Taşdelen Engin, President of UTIB, regarding the 2019-2020 activities, Professor Doctor Selva Demiralp made a presentation on Pandemic and Economy to the participants.
‘‘We carried out exports amounting to 1 Billion Dollars’’
In her opening speech of the Silkworm Export Awards Ceremony, UTIB President Pınar Taşdelen Engin stated that ending the year 2020 with success has a significant meaning and expressed, ‘‘Despite all the difficulties, Uludağ Textile Exporters’ Association managed to close the year 2020 with 1 billion dollars of exports. I am very happy to present awards to our companies, which are the architects of this success with their exports and performance despite the troublesome pandemic outbreak. I sincerely believe that the performance of our companies will increase with the normalization and we will achieve much better results in 2021.’’
‘‘We quickly adapted to digitalization’’
Stating that competition in the global economy has been reshaped during the pandemic period, Pınar Taşdelen Engin indicated that companies quickly adapt to changing conditions. Engin continued her statements as follows, ‘‘The digitalization process, which we would normally go through in 5-10 years, has become an important part of our lives in a very short time in this period. As UTIB, we have never been pessimistic. We did not stay still just because the borders were closed, and the organizations were canceled. We were in a constant search and development. Without canceling the events that we planned for new projects, new markets, and new customers that will pave the way for our industry, we successfully implemented them in the digital environment.’’
‘‘Our New Route is Sustainability’’
Pointing out that the Turkish textile industry has risen to a position that not only diversifies the market but also diversifies the product range, Engin emphasized that the new route of the industry is sustainability. UTIB President Engin said, ‘‘As textile exporters, we will continue to work with the same perseverance and determination to make the biggest contribution to our country’s export target of 200 billion dollars in 2021.’’
