I-REC Certified Green Energy Period Has Started in Ekoten
Ekoten, that has a sense of responsibility for the environment and nature, develops new methods in fabric production. Ekoten, continuing its own investment in the field of sustainability, provides 55% of its electricity needs from the solar energy plant which is set up in its knitting factory. Besides the clean energy which is produced by itself, Ekoten has also been zeroed out the carbon emissions from the electrical energy purchased in 2020 with the I-REC certificate. Ekoten received the I-REC International Green Energy Certificate in cooperation with SOCAR Energy Company.
Ekoten General Manager İshak Aydın Öztürk said “We believe that leaving a better future for all of us will only be possible with sustainability, so that we are leading in the textile industry. We provide solutions both the environment-friendly and useful for society by producing the fabrics with sustainable materials and methods.”
Ekoten Maintenance and Energy Manager Taylan Tugay gives some information about Sustainability strategies and says “In the last 10 years, we have reduced our energy consumption 3250 TEP (Tones of Equivalent Petrol) and have reduced our greenhouse gas emissions that equivalence of 19400 tons CO2 with our 35 Energy Kaizen Projects. We have run 2 of 35 projects that made a big contribution to energy savings as a VAP Project with the Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources.”
Energy management throughout in Ekoten Company has been certified with the ISO 50001 standard since 2012. The company has also reported its carbon emissions to the CDP (Carbon Disclosure Project) voluntarily since 2012. It takes important steps both by reducing the carbon footprint resulting from the use of electricity purchased in 2020 and protect our planet and the inherent right life of future generations. Ekoten will continue to use I-REC certified green energy by agreeing with SOCAR Energy for the years 2021 and 2022.
