Texhibition İstanbul Brought Sustainability and Design Together with the Textile Industry
Texhibition Istanbul Fabric and Textile Accessories Fair was held at Istanbul Expo Center between September 13-15, 2023. Organized for the fifth time this year, the fair welcomed more than 18,525 professional visitors from more than 100 countries.
Texhibition Istanbul Fair, which sets out with the aim of making the Turkish Textile and Raw Materials sector one of the top 3 largest textile suppliers in the world and will contribute to the sector’s export target of 15 billion dollars, became the meeting address of the sector with global buyers.
“We are the 2nd largest exporter sector in Turkey”
Ahmet Öksüz, Chairman of the Board of Istanbul Textile and Raw Materials Exporters’ Association (İTHİB), explained the problems and future targets of the sector at Texhibition Istanbul Fabric and Textile Accessories Fair. Stating that together with the ready-to-wear sector, they are the 2nd largest exporter sector of Turkey with an export volume of 31.2 billion dollars, Ahmet Öksüz said the following. “We are the sector that provides the highest foreign currency inflow to Turkey with a foreign trade surplus of approximately 20 billion dollars. Together with the ready-to-wear sector, we are the second sector with the highest production in the manufacturing industry with a production value of 82.4 billion dollars. While Turkey has a share of 1% in world exports, we have a share of 3.4% as the textile sector. In 2022, this rate was 2.8 per cent. We are the world’s fifth largest textile exporter and the EU’s second largest supplier.
“Free Trade Agreements should be signed with developed countries”
Öksüz said that additional customs duties on cotton yarn and staple fibre yarn should be increased to at least 20% and added: “The textile sector should be excluded from the Free Trade Agreements made with our competitor countries and Free Trade Agreements should be signed with developed countries.” Stating that they believe that this difficult period will be overcome in cooperation with the Ministry of Trade, Ahmet Öksüz said, “Our sector will continue to add value to the Turkish economy again thanks to our close contact.”
With over 15,000 m2 of exhibition space, the fair hosted over four hundred exhibitors and attracted thousands of qualified buyers from 104 countries, including European Union countries, the UK, the USA, North African countries and the Middle East.
Texhibition hosted 18,525 qualified domestic and foreign professionals, including major ready-to-wear manufacturers, international chain stores, department store purchasing managers, managers of international brands and chains that make collections for their own brands, managers of stores specializing in certain product groups, managers of online sales platforms, importers, wholesalers, distributors, designers, and those who have their own branded production.
In addition to bringing companies together with global brands, Texhibition offered exhibitors and visitors an export-oriented exhibition experience where production, quality, trends, sustainability and design are at the forefront. At Texhibition Istanbul 2023, manufacturers and suppliers of knitted and woven fabrics, denim, accessories and artificial leathers had the opportunity to showcase their latest innovations and designs.
The fabrics exhibited in the Trend Area, which was decorated according to the latest trends of the 2024-2025 fall-winter fashion, will serve as the showcase of the fair and presented the innovative developments in production to the visitors with designs bearing the theme of sustainability.
