Textile Industry Breaks Export Records in 2021
The textile industry, which realized the highest first 6-month exports of all time with 6.2 billion dollars worth of exports in the first half of 2021, reached an export figure of approximately 8.5 billion dollars in the January-October period.
The capacity utilization rate, which was 80.9 in the production of textile products in October 2021, increased by 1.4% compared to September 2021, and increased by 5% compared to October 2020.
Textile and ready-made clothing sectors employment figure reached 1 million 142 thousand in July 2021. While total employment decreased by 0.8% compared to June 2021, the rate increased by 11% compared to July 2020.
Most Exports to EU Countries
In the January-October period of 2021, most exports of textiles and raw materials were made to EU (27) countries, and exports to these countries increased by 35.6% compared to the January-October period of 2020, amounting to 4.9 billion US dollars.
In the January-October period of 2021, the second country group to which Turkey exported the most textiles and raw materials was the Former Eastern Bloc Countries. Exports to this region increased by 33.8% and reached an amount of 1.2 billion dollars.
The top 10 countries with the highest exports in the January-October period of 2021 are as follows: Italy, Germany, USA, England, Spain, Bulgaria, Belarus, Netherlands, Egypt, and France.
In the January-October period of 2021, the exports of the Turkish textile and raw materials sector increased by 28.5% compared to the same period of the previous year and amounted to 2.4 million tons. On the basis of quantity, exports to EU countries increased by 27.3% and reached 999 thousand tons.
Most Exported Product: Yarn
When the most exported product group is analyzed in the January-October period of 2021, it is observed that it is the yarn product group with an increase of 78%. Yarn exports increased by 37.4% in October. In the same period, technical textiles, the second most exported product group, decreased by 12.3% and the export amounted to 1.9 billion dollars.
The export of woven fabric, which is the third most important product group in Turkey’s textile and raw materials exports, increased by 24.1% in the January-October 2021 period and amounted to 1.9 billion dollars. Looking at home textile exports, it is seen that exports increased by 30% and reached a value of 1.9 billion dollars.
Knitted fabric exports in the January-October period amounted to 1.8 billion dollars with an increase of 49.6%, while the exports of the fiber sector increased by 66.2% to 807 million dollars, and the exports of the apparel sub-industry sector increased by 24.8% to 445 million dollars.
53.4% Increase in Synthetic-Artificial Fiber Exports
Man-made fibers are the most important sub-product group with a share of 59.4% in fiber exports, which amounted to 807 million dollars in the January-October period of 2021. In this period, synthetic fiber exports increased by 53.4% and amounted to a value of 479 million dollars. The most important country in Turkey’s fiber export is Iran, which has a share of 11.6% in total fiber exports with an export volume of 94 million dollars. Other important countries that stand out in fiber exports are as follows: Pakistan, Italy, and China.
When yarn exports are analyzed, it is observed that the most important sub-product group is yarns made of synthetic-artificial filament fibers with an export value of 806 million dollars. The share of the aforementioned product group in total yarn exports is 36.7%.
In January-October 2021, yarn exports from synthetic-artificial filament fibers increased by 64.8%. The cotton yarn product group, which is the second-largest sub-product group with a 33.7% share in total yarn exports, increased by 111% in the January-October period of 2021, reaching a value of 741 million dollars.
748 Million Dollars of cotton woven fabric exports
When woven fabric exports are analyzed, it is noticed that the most important sub-product group is cotton woven fabric exports with a share of 39.4% and an export value of 748 million dollars. When knitted fabric exports are analyzed, it is observed that the most important sub-product group is other knitted fabrics with an export value of 1 billion dollars.
20.8% Increase in Denim Fabric Exports
In the January-October period of 2021, Turkey’s denim fabric exports amounted to 241 million dollars with an increase of 20.8%. The most important country in denim fabric exports in the January-October period was Tunisia with export of 49 million dollars and a share of 20.3%. Egypt ranked 2nd with a 13.3% share and 32 million dollars worth of exports, while Morocco took 3rd place with a 9.5% share and 23 million dollars worth of exports.
When home textile exports are analyzed on the basis of product groups in the January-October 2021 period, it is seen that the most important product group is towels and cleaning cloths with a share of 31.6%. Turkey’s towel and cleaning cloth exports increased by 32% in this period, reaching a value of 598 million dollars.
Considering Turkey’s technical textile exports, the situation is as follows. In the January-October period of 2021, it is observed that 32% of total exports are composed of the non-woven product group. In this period, Turkey’s non-woven exports increased by 7.2% and amounted to 623 million dollars.
