Trützschler to Focus on Sustainability and Digitalisation
Trützschler, which has been producing since 1888 in fiber preparation, is among the market leaders in cotton spinning preparation and man-made fibers. All solutions developed by the company for their customers cover the entire spinning preparation process.
For more than 130 years, the Trützschler Group – along with its employees – has stood for the successful production of textile machinery components (clothings) and of machines and installations for fiber preparation in the spinning and nonwovens/BCF industry.
Trützschler, which attaches great importance to sustainability and digitalisation. We made an interview with Bettina Temath, Head of Global Marketing of Trützschler. Temath says, “We don’t waste raw material, we have certain solutions to develop to make sure that we dave every good fiber that there is. We have a system that we call “waste control”. That makes sure that we really avoid unnecessary waste in making the most of the raw materials.”
What are the priority issues Trützschler focuses on and what kind of work do you follow?
First of all, it’s a bit different between our divisions. As you know we have several divisions. We have spinning division, we have nonwovens, we have manmade fibers, and card clothing divisions. In spinning division, which is our largest division, we try to understand our customer’s issues and challenges, and we found that it’s really a lot about labor availability, which is a challenge for many customers, but also cost pressure, quality in the raw material, and also the topic of data management, data transparency. For example, we have developed the self- optimizing intelligent card, which automatically sets the carding. For the operator it is super simple and many of the manual labor doesn’t have to be done.
The latest innovation in the blowroom offers more economy and quality as well: The Portal Bale Opener BO-P, with widths of 2,900 mm or 3,500 mm, allows significantly more bales to be placed side by side and processes them in parallel using two opening rolls. Thus, it results in significantly better blending and higher productions of up to 3,000 kg/h.
Data management and transparency a lot of our customers white sheets of paper and collect the data try to calculate the days until they have to do maintenance for the cards, it is also something we try to improve through digital solutions. In particular we are monitoring systems and production and maintenance aspects of their facility with our solutions. We have established a division focusing solely on digitalisation and Industry 4.0. With our latest developments, most notably with our new intelligent card TC 19i, as well as our new digital monitoring and management systems, we are consistently moving forward.
What have been your company’s achievements over the past 12 months?
I think it’s really the innovations that we are featuring. And it’s the intelligent card first and foremost. The BO-P with a larger working width facilitating better blending quality, it’s our digital solutions we have to offer. One thing that is also good because we are actually covering the whole process of spinning preparation. Trützschler engineers have developed a state-of the art leveller draw frame equipped with the latest digital levelling technology: TD 10.
We have already introduced it last year in Asia. But it’s the first time we are showing it in Europe. We don’t only have the spinning division. We also have nonwovens and manmad fibers. For the nonwovens, the focus is very much on sustainability. Getting away a little bit from producing wipes made of chemicals like madmade plastics, there is a growing trend towards the wipes. What we want to facilitate is production of wipes from renewable raw materials. So we have a process now, using plastics that are biodegradable.
If you assess in terms of export market, what is the importance of Turkey for your company?
Turkey is a very important market for us. We have a big customer base in Turkey and long term relationships, yes it’s a very important market for us.
What measures is your company taking to adapt to sustainability, approaching manufacturing?
Sustainability is very important. I gave you an example. In spinning for example, what we are trying to do is really make the most of the raw material. We don’t waste raw material, we have certain solutions to develop to make sure that we dave every good fiber that there is. We have a system that we call “waste control”. That makes sure that we really avoid unnecessary waste in making the most of the raw materials. That is one example. This is good for the environment, also good for the balance sheet. Because it saves a lot of money. The other example is energy efficient wipes, energy efficient suction systems, while we try to save energy. Its also a contribution.
