Turkey Breaks Record in Ready-to-Wear and Garment Exports in the First 6 Months of 2022
As one of the world’s largest textile manufacturers, Turkey is also among the top 5 countries in the garment and ready-to-wear industry. The capacity utilization rate in Turkey’s garment and ready-to-wear industry, which has increased its exports and production especially in the last period, has reached 85%.
Garment and ready-to-wear, Turkey’s second largest industry in terms of production and employment, exports to more than 200 countries. The sector, which has a strong country image in world markets with the label “Made in Turkey”, is also making a big breakthrough in the field of branding and retail with its recently developing design and fashion understanding. Among the most important factors in this; high quality, diversity, production capacity and speed to meet all kinds of orders. Due to Turkey’s geographical location, its proximity to garment and ready-to-wear buyers, especially Europe, causes world brands to prefer Turkish manufacturers.
Ready-to-Wear and Garment Exports Increased by 9.5% in June 2022
In June 2022, 1 billion 972 million dollars worth of ready-to-wear and garment exports were made from Turkey. Exports increased by 9.5% compared to June 2021. The export figure in June 2022 was above the monthly average export values calculated for 2021 and 2022 in general.

Most exports were made to Germany and Spain
The first three countries to which the most ready-to-wear and garment are exported from Turkey; Germany, Spain and England. In 2022, compared to the same period of the previous year; Exports to Germany were 1.9 billion dollars with an increase of 17.9%, to Spain 1.3 billion dollars with an increase of 11.4%, and to the UK 1 billion dollars with an increase of 11.9%.
These three countries are followed by the Netherlands with an export figure of 909.7 million dollars and France in the fifth place with an export figure of 593.7 million dollars. The USA, Italy, Israel, Iraq and Denmark are the other leading markets in Turkey’s ready-to-wear and garment exports, respectively.
The Most Exported Product Group: Woven Suits for Women/Girls
In the first two months of 2022, compared to June last year, an increase was recorded in all main product groups of ready-to-wear and garment exports. The export of knitted clothing, which is the most exported product group, increased by 12.3% in the January-June period of 2022 compared to the same period of 2021 and reached 5.2 billion dollars.
Exports of the second largest group, woven clothing and accessories, increased by 19.7% and reached 4 billion dollars. Exports in the other ready-made goods product group, which also includes home textile products and surgical mask product groups, increased by 6.3% and reached 1.4 billion dollars.
In the January-June period of 2022, it ranks first among the products that stand out in ready-to-wear and garment exports; woven suit, jacket, etc. for women/girls. clothing products. In this product group, an increase of 23.9% compared to the same period of the previous year and exports of 1.9 billion dollars were realized. This product group is followed by clothing products such as t-shirts, athletes, etc., with an increase of 7.4% compared to the January-June 2021 period and an export value of 1.6 billion dollars.
In the mentioned period, an increase was observed in all product groups among the top ten product groups exported compared to the same period of the previous year. It was remarkable that there was a 40.1% increase in the clothing group, which includes shirts for men and boys, compared to the same period of the previous year.
