“We Aim to Improve Our After Sales Services in the Turkish Market in 2024”
Interview: Özge Çağıl Sütcü
Mesdan, a manufacturer of knotting machines and quality control equipment for textile laboratories, exports to 70 different countries. Claudio Bertolotti, Sales Director of Mesdan said; “Our goal for 2024 is to develop local after-sales service by taking advantage of the service center established by our group of companies Vandewiele in Gaziantep.”
Since its foundation in 1952 by Daniele Messa, Mesdan has been a pioneer in the production of yarn joining machines thanks to the development of many patents in the field of air and water yarn joining technology. The MesdanLab division is also an important supplier of textile laboratory equipment. Offering customized solutions and expert after-sales support to local textile mills, its distributors in the most important textile markets can ensure fast delivery of spare parts, consumables and accessories.
As Tekstil Teknoloji magazine, we interviewed with Claudio Bertolotti, Sales Director Mesdan. Bertolotti evaluated 2023 and talked about Mesdan’s preparations for ITM 2024 Exhibition and investment plans.
The highlights of the interview are as follows:
“2023 was a Absolutely Positive Year for Mesdan Despite the Decrease in the General Market”
Despite the general market decrease seen during the year, 2023 was absolutely positive for Mesdan. Indeed it was not as good as 2022, during which a record turnover was reached, but for sure expectations were positively overcome. Main advantage for Mesdan is the diversification of both the product lines and the end users and the educational and R&D end markets helped to balance the minor investments for the production lines.
We receintly completely revised the line of the single-column tensile strength testers, with the introduction of a new fully automatic yarn tester (suitable also for hanks/LEA and light fabrics), a new 1-position versatile automatic tester (for fibres, yarns, hanks/LEA and fabrics) and a semi-automatic fully versatile tester. At the same time, we could complete the range of lab equipment for the fibre testing, with the official launch at ITMA of CONTEST-F2 (high volume cotton fibre testing equipment) and the unique CONTEST-S (cotton stickiness tester).
As regards the yarn joining division, important resources are dedicated to the development of an innovative electronic splicer, where motors and electrovalves will replace most of the mechanical actions of the splicer, so to improve the result consistency, increase the versatility and efficiency and reduce the maintenance.
“Turkey is always one of the most important countries for Mesdan”
Turkey has always been one of the most important countries for the Italian textile machineries export and for Mesdan as well. During 2024 the objective is to take advantage of the service centre set up in Gaziantep by VANDEWIELE, the group of companies to which Mesdan belongs, to improve the local after sales service.
“Mesdan wants to be recognized for the quality, uniqueness and technology of its products”
The recent geopolitical tensions, that created difficulties or restrictions in the international trade, have clearly shown that a unique sales and marketing approach can not be followed anymore. Deeper analysis are required and specific actions must be taken for reaching some particular countries. Being part of one of the largest textile machine manufacturers group, with production sites, logisitic and service centres worldwide, gives Mesdan an incredible advantage and lots of strategic opportunities. Mesdan want to be recognised for the quality of its products, for their uniqueness and their technology. We will continue developing new equipment, for sure with an eye to the sales opportunities but focussing particularly to the possibility of aquiring technological know-how and increase our brand reputation in the long term. In the development of new products we have to meet our customers requirements for the enviromental sustainability, which means lower power and water consumption, higher efficiency and less waste.
“We have many R&D projects expected to be completed before the end of 2024”
Lately, there are many R&D projects in the pipeline, expected to reach the completation before the end of 2024: the revision of various existing laboratory equipment (like the evenness tester, the double-column tensile strength tester), the design of a new fibre length measuring equipment, and the official launch of the Lab Shredding Machine, a laboratory solution for the mechanical textile recycling, which is already receiving high interest. At the same time, the project of the electronic splicer will hopefully be completed and the first units of the automatic version will be available for the sales, so to start then with the application of the same technology to the semi-automatic splicing equipment, which will represent a revolution for the company core line.
“We Hope to Attract a Large Number of Visitors at ITM 2024”
For the first time at ITM, Vandewiele will have corporate booths for all the brands of the group. Mesdan will be exhibiting in the booth located in the spinning hall, together with the other brands of spinning (Savio, Leopfe, Superba) and weaving, but other booths will be set up for the knitting and the finishing. We expect that such an important and attractive presence will call the attention of the many visitors that usually attend ITM, coming from Turkey but also from many other countries of Europe, Asia and Africa.
