Turkey Exported Carpets Worth Approximately 3 Billion Dolars In 2022
Turkey, which holds 73% of the world’s carpet production, exported a total of 2 billion 754 million 757 thousand dollars in 2022. Carpet manufacturers predict that exports will increase in 2023.
Salahattin Kaplan, Chairman of the Turkish Exporters Assembly (TIM) Carpet Industry Board, said that 2022 has been a tough year for the carpet industry. Explaining that Turkey exported carpet worth 260 million 918 thousand dollars in December 2022, Kaplan stated that in 2022, a total of 2 billion 754 million 757 thousand dollars’ worth of carpet was exported.
Kaplan, who made an evaluation on the subject, said, “For many reasons, there has been a significant decrease in exports in the carpet industry, as in other sectors. While carpet exports of 260 million 918 thousand dollars were realized throughout Turkey in the period of December 2022, we exported 2 billion 754 million 757 thousand dollars in 2022, a decrease of 13.3% compared to the same periods of the previous year. Of course, we have a new year ahead of us, and we will have important projects as an industry to increase the exports of the carpet industry this year. Our searching for new markets will continue, and we will make efforts to our exporters to head towards new markets determined on different continents and to carry out promotional activities. We congratulate both our producers and exporters who work hard and make superhuman efforts to increase our exports, and I hope that 2023 will be a year of recovery for our industry.”
We are Leading the Sectors Affected by the Crises Therefore, carpet manufacturers from Gaziantep, who came together at the “Traditional Consultation Meeting” of the Southeast Anatolian Carpet Exporters Association, evaluated the sector. Zeynel Abidin Kaplan, President of the Southeast Anatolian Carpet Exporters’ Association, said, “Carpet in the world means Gaziantep; Gaziantep means carpet. The carpet industry has been one of the sectors most affected by the impacts of the pandemic and the wars and crises in different parts of the world for the last two years.”
“We will Keep Working for Solutions”
Stating that they look to the future with confidence despite the negativities experienced, Chairman Kaplan stated that they continue to work for the solution of the problems. “We have expectations from our government in terms of removing barriers to exports. Issues such as ease of access to finance, stability in raw material prices, and high energy and labor costs expect solutions. We gained the ability to handle crises by learning the most important crises in the past. We want to close this process with the least loss and realize our sustainable exports. For this reason, we have no choice but to unite.” Kaplan said.
