“We Pay Attention to Fulfilling Customer Commitments During the Pandemic”
The Covid-19 pandemic led to a market situation where demand for the Reiter’s goods and services decreased significantly in the first half of 2020. For this reason, Rieter has implemented a comprehensive Covid-19 crisis management application, placing emphasis on fulfilling customers’ commitments and ensuring liquidity.
Rieter is the only supplier worldwide to cover spinning preparation processes as well as all four end spinning processes currently established on the market. We interviewed with Relindis Wieser, Marketing and Communication Group Head of Rieter Group, for the ‘Yarn Technologies Special Issue’ of our Textile Technology magazine. Wieser explained the advantages of Rieter products, the changes in the spinning machinery industry in the last two years, and the measures taken by the company during the coronavirus outbreak.
What are your major products for the industry? What are the distinguishing characteristics and features of your major products?
The product portfolio of Rieter is unique. It includes all machines for fiber and spinning preparation and all four end-spinning technologies established on the market – the basis for extensive technological expertise from the fiber through to the yarn and beyond to the textile fabric. The advantage is the fact that Rieter customers have just one contact person for their spinning mill project.
Quick assembly and a rapid start to production are guaranteed. Trainings ensure efficient and profitable production and correct maintenance. Interesting upgrades, high-quality genuine parts and service packages for increasing production are a matter of course.
Opting for a Rieter system means that the right yarn can be produced in consistent quality and at a competitive cost, and system integration can be leveraged in terms of material flow and digitization. A Rieter system is much more than the mere combination of great Rieter machines.
Customized spinning systems thanks to a broad range of products and services for every customer requirement: Thus, Rieter offers spinners the chance of maximum profitability and competitiveness – throughout the entire service life of a mill.
What is the biggest change you see in the business over the last 2 years? What conditions are you experiencing that are most influencing your business?
Digitization plays an increasingly critical role. ESSENTIAL – the Rieter Digital Spinning Suite – leverages digital technology for the textile value creation. The all-in-one mill management system provides meaningful key performance indicators and visualizes improvements for the entire spinning process. It integrates Rieter’s digital offerings, provides customized interfaces to ERP systems and connects third-party machines and all auxiliaries that influence the production of yarn. The system supports the management in order to strengthen the expertise of mill staff, eliminate inefficiencies and optimize costs. ESSENTIAL is a modular system.
What has been the impact of Covid-19 on the business you are in?
The Covid-19 pandemic led to a market situation where demand for the goods and services of all three business groups decreased significantly in the first half of 2020. Therefore, Rieter has implemented comprehensive Covid-19 crisis management. Priority is being given to protecting employees, fulfilling customer commitments and ensuring liquidity. The necessary measures to protect employees have been implemented worldwide and the order backlog is being processed largely as planned. In recent years, Rieter has consistently implemented the strategy based on the cornerstones of innovation leadership, strengthening the components, spare parts and services businesses, and adjusting cost structures. The company will forge ahead with the strategy in the coming months, with a view to strengthening its market position for the time after the Covid-19 pandemic.

Are there any plans for launching new products targeted in yarn machinery industry?
At ITMA 2019 in Barcelona (Spain), Rieter presented a comprehensive range of innovations for all four end spinning systems established on the market:
The fiber preparation the new UNIclean B 15 and the new high-performance card C 80 bring significant improvements in terms of energy consumption and the cleaning result for all spinning processes. An unrivaled level of productivity can be reached.

To increase the cost-effectiveness of the ring spinning and compact-spinning process, Rieter launched the new comber E 90, the new roving frame F 40, the piecing robot ROBOspin for ring spinning machines and two different compacting devices that can easily be installed on and removed from a ring spinning machine: COMPACTdrum and COMPACTeasy.
The new draw frame module RSB-Module 50 can be used in combination with the high-performance card C 80 and can be configured to a highly efficient direct process with the new semi-automated rotor spinning machine R 37 or the fully automatic rotor spinning machine R 70. Both machines are characterized by low energy consumption, high productivity and high machine availability with low raw material costs. Rieter also introduced the economical air-jet spinning process for highest quality yarns made from 100% combed cotton.
All these innovations are aimed at reducing the raw material, energy and labor costs while increasing productivity and flexibility in the spinning mill.
The strong demand for innovative solutions since the ITMA 2019 underlines Rieter’s technology leadership. Thus, the company has achieved another important milestone in the implementation of the company strategy. The innovation program continues.
