Turkey Exporters Assembly (TIM) announced the provisional foreign trade data for the month of July. According to the General Trade System (GTS), exports achieved a total amount of 15 billion 12 million US dollars in July with a decrease of 5.8 percent compared to July of the previous year due to the difference in the number of working days due to the perceived holiday. Evaluating the effects of the pandemic on the world economy, TIM President İsmail Gülle indicated that, “International organizations in the global economy and trade maintain the expectation that the biggest contraction will be observed after the Second World War in 2020.”
“The Perception of Turkish Made Goods Improves in Global Markets”
Gülle emphasized that the negative atmosphere caused by the pandemic in export markets of Turkey in the months of March-April-May has been left behind in June, and continued his statement as follows: ‘‘Turkey distinguished positively from many countries through the increased export figures by 35 percent in June compared to the previous month. Our exports maintained this success also in July, with an increase of 11.5 percent compared to June. Our July export was the highest monthly export figure since the announcement of the pandemic outbreak. Turkish exporters were able to change the direction of the troublesome situation to their benefits in a very short amount of time. We have shown our strength to the world in reliable supply during this challenging period. Because of these efforts, the perception of Turkish made goods is developing in global markets every day, and confidence in our country advances. Turkey is registered as the ‘safe harbor of’ global trade and it proceeds its course beyond the ‘expected normal numbers in exports’. We were docked in the pandemic period, and now it is time to take wings.’’
