Lenzing Introduced Its New Fiber: Tencel™ Lyocell – HV100
The Lenzing Group, the leading global producer of regenerative cellulosic fibers for the textile and nonwoven industries, has launched a new fiber innovation called Tencel™ Lyocell – HV100, developed in response to the demands of value chain partners seeking a textured aesthetic inspired by natural fibers.
This innovation deliberately creates variations in fiber length within a bale using Variocut technology. In this way, a textured appearance, typically associated with natural fibers, is achieved in the final product.
Processing Natural Imperfections
Tencel™ Lyocell – HV100 inherently carries the environmental advantages and consistent quality of Lenzing™ cellulosic fibers. Through controlled variation in fiber lengths, fine irregularities characteristic of natural fibers appear in the fabric, reflecting the unique properties and look of natural fibers. The matte surface of the fiber, which enriches the texture, also creates an opaque appearance, offering factories and brands broader creative possibilities to develop fabrics with a natural fiber aesthetic.
The fiber provides a soft but not overly fluid hand feel in premium denim products. Thus, natural softness is achieved while eliminating issues such as tone variations after washing or excessive drapiness that may feel artificial.
Rohit Aggarwal, CEO of the Lenzing Group, said:
“Tencel™ Lyocell – HV100 redefines what regenerative cellulosic fibers can achieve. This launch comes at a very critical time when the gap between fiber demand and supply is widening. As the textile industry adapts to meet the growing demand for natural aesthetics and more sustainable solutions, Tencel™ Lyocell – HV100 offers a unique answer to both needs. This product represents a meaningful step in our commitment to continue supporting our partners and customers to thrive in a rapidly changing market. At the same time, it addresses key environmental priorities such as resource efficiency.”
Tencel™ Lyocell – HV100 demonstrates successful results in denim applications where authentic texture takes center stage. The fibers offer new possibilities in warp yarns traditionally dominated by cotton while maintaining the processing efficiency required by manufacturers.
Sustainable Fiber Solutions for Design Diversity
Lenzing Vice President of Corporate Sustainability Krishna Manda said:
“In our discussions with partners on sustainability, we always return to the same fundamental question: how can we increase design possibilities while reducing environmental impact? Tencel™ Lyocell – HV100 offers an answer to this question; our closed-loop production’s resource efficiency (at least 50% less water consumption and carbon emissions compared to generic lyocell) combines the aesthetic diversity our partners need to differentiate their products.”
Blend Flexibility Opens the Door to Broader Textile Applications
Beyond denim, trials in apparel and home textile applications reveal greater potential for Tencel™ Lyocell – HV100. When blended with standard Tencel™ Lyocell fibers or cotton, it offers different texture and hand-feel options. This flexibility allows manufacturers to finely adjust texture by changing blend ratios. Thus, a wide range of applications from structured chino pants to soft home textiles becomes possible. Moreover, in all these applications, the moisture management and biodegradability features typical of Tencel™ fibers are preserved.
Florian Heubrandner, Lenzing’s Vice President of Global Textile Business Management, said:
“From a technical point of view, Tencel™ Lyocell – HV100 allows us to innovate and co-develop new solutions with our manufacturing partners. Controlled variation enables the development of yarn and fabric types that were not possible with Lyocell before. We are already seeing innovative approaches from different markets that promise great potential in terms of product differentiation. We look forward to working with more partners to use these versatile fibers across a wider range—from apparel to home textiles.”
The new Tencel™ Lyocell – HV100 fibers were introduced at the Lenzing booth at the Kingpins show in Amsterdam on October 15–16. In addition, about 20 different fabric manufacturers showcased fabrics developed with these new fibers at their own booths.
