Şirikçioğlu Makes Eco-Friendly Production with Dry Dyeing
Şirikçioğlu Mensucat adds value to its brand in the global markets with its eco-friendly production, which it performs by the dry dyeing method and using laser for the effects, attrition and tearing processes in denim fabric. Strengthening the reputation of the Turkish denim industry, the company also makes huge savings in water, treatment and energy.
The industrial developments, population growth and the rapid consumption of natural resources create a worrying situation for the generations who will need them in the future and also cause the environment to become more and more polluted. Industrial wastes play an important role in this pollution.
Şirikçioğlu Mensucat, located in Kahramanmaraş, protects the environment with zero waste. Prepared to deactivate even their Water Treatment Plants thanks to its dry dyeing and laser technology, the company continues its tradition of being a “role model” for environmental production.
Chairman of Şirikçioğlu Mensucat Atıf Şirikçi told us about their new generation environmental production techniques with their investments as a company that adopts the principle of production in accordance with global standards since the day it was established.
Natural resources running out
Atıf Şirikçi stated that resources are being consumed rapidly as a result of insensible use of natural resources in the world, industrialization and rapid population increase and added that textile is one of the leading industries, in which these natural resources are consumed the most, which is why future generations will also need it.
Stating that textile is one of the leading industries where water and chemicals are used intensively and as a result of global warming the importance of water is increasing, Şirikçi said that their company no longer uses water in denim production. He also added,
“As you know, denim is the technical and global name for the fabric we use in blue jeans. In the past, denim products used to be subjected to many washing processes and the amount of water and energy used to increase in parallel with the increase in the number of processes as the colors of the garments faded and more effects were used. As a company, we use a technology that no longer requires water in yarn dyeing thanks to the investments we have made on R&D and P&D projects. Likewise, we do not waste water in weaving. In addition to dry dyeing, we also perform processes of effects, attrition and tearing in denim fabric with laser technology. So we give color to the fabric by burning it. In the past, these effects used to be made by washing and bleaching. Now, without compromising on quality, we are doing this with laser and use zero water.”
Both eco-friendly and economic
Noting that eco-friendly production is also economic, Atıf Şirikçi stated that they achieved a high level of savings on water use, water treatment and energy and the Water Treatment Facilities in the Dyehouse now remain inactive.
Şirikçi reminded that in the past, tons of water was treated in the dye-house and released to environment, and now it is important for the government to offer incentives for this kind of production to spread throughout the country.
Şirikçi stated that eco-friendly production adds value to both their brand and the reputation of Turkish textile industry, adding
“Because Turkish textile is an important value in the world. We can say that our reputation doubles when combined with eco-friendly production. In international markets, buyers are now caring about how the product is produced rather than quality. World markets are very sensitive about sustainability, which has been a buzz word in Turkey also. In other words, environmental approaches come to the fore every day. Therefore, we hope that environmental approaches will increase not only in denim but in all kinds of production.”
Şirikçi added that they are happy to take part in a positive transformation while preserving the environment with sustainable denim production methods.
