Winners of the 10th ATHIB Woven Fabric Design Competition Awards
On this special night, which took place in the perfect atmosphere of the Adana Old National Textile Factory, fabric designs bearing traces of different themes, combined with the imagination of 10 finalists, were presented to the jury in a flamboyant fashion show. The fashion show, which consisted of 10 different pieces, added excitement to the night as the 10 excited young finalists reflected on their color, texture, and unique fabric styles. In the fashion show, which was realized using hologram visualization, 4 different fabric designs designed by each finalist were transferred to a 3D environment. Fabric animations, which were prepared by providing movements in the form of ripples to the fabrics, were reflected on the white screen that provides the hologram image and staged with an unusual presentation.
Innovative and extraordinary ideas
Nuray Er Bıyıklı, Coordinator and Consultant for the Competition expressed the following statements regarding the contest, ‘‘The Woven Fabric Design Competition, which started out with the idea of organizing a design competition within ATHIB in 2012, has turned from an idea to a passion with a team spirit in 10 years. It is now a project that aims to discover young designers with innovative and extraordinary ideas with their original and creative designs, to support their professional development through gaining experience in the industrial production process, and to be a pioneer for them. Especially in the last five years, more cooperation has been made with sector companies to contribute to the multi-faceted development of finalist students. While the finalists gain experience by getting to know the opportunities of the sector closely at each stage of this competition, which is educational for them, they take part in every stage of the industrial production process, and by practicing in the business environment, they get one step closer to the sector while working with the design and production teams of the companies.’’
After two months of intense design, production, and excitement
Hatice Gökçe, who assumed the project design coordination of the competition, stated her assessments as follows, ‘‘The century-old weaving factory, Old National Textile, which is Turkey’s 7th and Adana’s first industrial establishment, is also the factory where Orhan Kemal, one of the most masterful writers of our literature, was employed as a clerk. The factory, which is registered as the ‘Cultural Asset Industrial Heritage’, located in the Döşeme neighborhood in the center of Adana, is a factory that has uniquely made a history of using the products produced by a country where art and industry are intertwined, as raw material for its own industry. We are very proud of our exhibition and fashion show, which we held in such an atmosphere and which we believe is in line with the spirit of the history and the place. After two months of intense design, production, and excitement, we left behind the 10th year with an exhibition and fashion show. The best award of the night for us was the satisfaction and gratitude of the designer nominee finalists, and the models’ unwillingness to take off their designs after the fashion show was over and they didn’t want to leave the exhibition area. We thank the ATHIB family for their trust in us and proudly hand over the 10th year to the 11th.’’
