Woven Fabric Exports Increased by 26% in 2021
One of the most important sub-sectors of the textile industry is the woven fabric manufacturing. The woven fabric industry has placed itself as one of the important sub-sectors of the textile industry due to its investment capacity and export potential on the one hand, and raw material supply to the ready-made clothing and apparel industry, which is the third most exported sector, on the other.
For instance, woven fabric stands out as the most important product group in textile exports in the January-December period of 2020. The exports of woven fabrics, which make up 19.4% of textile exports as a whole, decreased by 19.6% in 2020 compared to 2019 due to the pandemic outbreak that affected the whole world and amounted to 1.9 billion US Dollars.

1.3 Billion Dollars of Woven Fabric Exports in the First 7 Months of 2021
The export of woven fabrics, which is the third most important product group in Turkey’s textile and raw materials exports, reached a value of 1.3 billion US Dollars with an increase of 26.1% in the January-July 2021 period. The exports of the woven fabric sector in July, on the other hand, decreased by 2.6% and amounted to 173 million US Dollars.
The analysis of the exports of woven fabrics reveals that on the basis of sub-product groups in the January-July 2021 period, it is observed that the most important sub-product group is the export of woven fabric from synthetic-artificial filament yarns with a 39.7% share and an export value of 501 million US Dollars. It is followed by cotton woven fabric with 488 million US Dollars, woven fabric from synthetic-artificial discontinuous yarns with 231 million US Dollars, woven fabric from vegetable fiber with approximately 27 million US Dollars, woven fabric from wool, and fine-coarse animal hair with 10 million US Dollars, and silk woven fabric follows with 3 million US Dollars.
The Most Woven Fabric Exports Are Made to EU Countries
While 41.5% of Turkey’s woven fabric exports were carried out to EU countries, exports to these countries increased by 25.3% in the January-July period and were recorded as 524 million US Dollars. In the January-July 2021 period, the most woven fabric exports were made to Spain with approximately 99 million US Dollars. Italy with 85 million US Dollars of exports, Morocco with 64 million US Dollars, Germany with 58 million US Dollars, and Tunisia with 57 million US Dollars followed this country.
Weaving machine purchase increased by 121% in 2020
According to the data of the Turkish Statistical Institute (TUIK); the export figures of weaving machines were 19,330,997 US Dollars in January-September 2019, but the numbers decreased to 11,402,288 US Dollars in the same period of 2020. The most remarkable increase in import figures was in weaving machines. Our imports, which were 68,265,146 US Dollars in the first nine months of 2019, increased by 121% to achieve 151,197,308 US Dollars.
