15 Thousand Reduce Its Textile Wastes to Zero
Altınyıldız Classics started the production of self-colored cotton, which does not need dyeing processes, as a result of its R&D studies. In the first harvest, 2,230 kilograms of cotton were collected.
Altınyıldız aims to save water and energy thanks to its self-colored cotton production and to take an important step in the fight against climate change with its positive contribution to the environment. In addition, the company, with these cottons, will produce approximately 15 thousand pieces of knitted product groups, including sweatshirts, t-shirts, sweatpants, and shorts. Altınyıldız Classics, one of the leading brands of men’s fashion, started to produce self-colored cotton as a result of its efforts for a sustainable nature under the Long Live the World’ platform roof. As a result of the self-colored cotton plantation carried out by Altınyıldız Classics on a 5000 m2 of land in Çukurova, 2,230 kilograms of cotton were collected from the first harvest. Then, approximately 3500 kilograms of fabric were produced from the yarns by the knitting process.
While it is advantageous to eliminate some chemical processes with the production of colored cotton, it also provides the opportunity to save a large amount of energy. Self-colored cottons have a soft touch and feel, so there is no need for cleaning and trimming, such as finishing with fabric softeners. By skipping these steps, a significant amount of water, energy, electricity, labor, auxiliary materials, dyes, and chemicals are saved. Another advantage of fabrics made from self-colored cotton is that it does not fade after washing.
