Textile and Machinery Sector Continues to Grow without Slowing Down in 2018
GROWTH CONTINUES THROUGHOUT IN 2018
According to the latest report published by İTHİB (Istanbul Textile and Raw Materials Exporters’ Association) covering the January-November period of 2018; In the first 11 months of the year, exports of textiles and raw materials increased by 5.2% to 9.7 billion dollars. Textile exports, which started in 2018 with an increase of 13.4%, achieved a growth compared to the same period of the previous year, except for the decline in August.
EU COUNTRIES DIDN’T LEAVE FIRST PLACE
The country group with the highest increase in exports of textiles and raw materials was the Asian and Oceania countries with a 27.0% increase in January-November period of 2018. EU countries has managed to become the number one textile market in Turkey in 2018 as it was in 2017. Total exports to EU countries increased 2.2% in January-November 2018 and exports to EU countries meet alone 51.6% of Turkey’s exports of textile.
ITALY IS AT THE TOP
When Turkey’s textile and raw material exports prominent in countries evaluated the first 11 months of 2018, there seems that Italy is the most important export market. Exports of textile and raw materials to Italy amounted to 73 million dollars in November 2018 with an increase of 0.8%. It was recorded as 820 million dollars, an increase of 1.4% in January – November period of 2018.
Turkey’s second and third most important textile market respectively were Germany and the USA with 8.3% and 5.7%. In January-November 2018, exports of textiles and raw materials to Germany increased by 2.5% compared to the same period of the previous year to 805 million dollars. Exports to the US increased by 3.4% to reached 554 million dollars.
THE MOST IMPORTANT PRODUCT GROUP IN EXPORT: WOVEN FABRIC
When the exports of textiles and raw materials on the basis of product groups are examined in the January – November period of last year, the most important product group is woven fabric. Exports of woven fabrics, which accounted for 23.9% of the textile and raw materials’ exports, amounted to 2.3 billion dollars, up 3.6% compared to the same period of the previous year.
In the first 11 months of 2018, the second most important product group in the textile and raw materials exports was the yarn group, which accounted for 18.2% of the sector’s exports. Yarn exports amounted to approximately 1.8 billion dollars in January-November The third important product group was the home textile group, which accounted for 15.2% of its textile and raw materials exports. Compared to on the annual basis, exports of this product group decreased by 0.7%, but in November 2018, exports increased by 4.5% to about 152 million dollars.
TEXTILE DYEING FINISHING MACHINES BECAME THE STAR OF EXPORT
Textile machinery sector, which is another important branch of the textile sector, witnessed record develop- ments in 2018. According to the 2018 report by TEMSAD (Textile Machinery and Accessories Industrialists’ Association); Compared to last year, exports of textile machinery have made great progress this year. As a result of the first 11 months of 2018, exports exceeded 650 million dollars. By year last month of 2018, 750 million dollars textile machine was exported with a 20% increase compared to the previous year. 500 million dollars exports were in dyeing and finishing machines. Imports of 2018 were totaled 1.9 billion dollars.
