Turkish Fashion Industry Attended Munich Fabric Start Fair in Germany
The Aegean Apparel Exporters’ Association held the Turkish National Participation Organization in the Munich Fabric Start the Source Fair, which was held for the second edition in Germany, Europe’s strongest market, on September 3-4, 2024.
Munich Fabric Start Fair, which is one of the most well-known fairs in the textile market and hosts textile buyers and suppliers around the world, is held twice a year.
The fair was the 4th and last national participation fair to be held by EHKIB in 2024. 11 ready-to-wear manufacturers participated in the national participation organization.
The Aegean Apparel Exporters’ Association President Burak Sertbaş said, “In January 2024, 14,700 international participants visited the fair, where 1,100 companies from 58 different countries participated. Germany is our largest ready-to-wear export market. It is very important that EHKIB regularly participates in MFS the Source fair. Germany’s total ready-to-wear imports in 2023 are at the level of 46 billion dollars. Germany is the second largest clothing importer in the world after the United States. In the January-July period of 2024, our ready-to-wear exports to Germany decreased by 10 percent compared to the previous year and amounted to 1.7 billion dollars. Clothing exports to Germany, which ranks 2nd after Spain in EHKIB exports, decreased by 13% in the first seven months of 2024 compared to the previous year and amounted to 170 million dollars. Our companies exhibited their autumn-winter 2025/2026 collections for two days in the “The Source” area.”
The Aegean Apparel Exporters’ Association Board Member and Foreign Market Strategies Development Committee Chairman Tala Uğuz said, “Turkey is Germany’s 3rd largest clothing supplier after China and Bangladesh. After the national participation organization, we aim to increase the share of our country in the German market. In the January-July period of 2024, the first seven months of the year were difficult for ready-to-wear exports in Turkey due to the increase in domestic labor/energy costs and the fact that foreign demand is not yet at the desired level. There is a 10% loss compared to the same period last year. EHKIB exports, on the other hand, increased by 2% compared to the previous year in the same period and amounted to 826 million dollars. With this fair, 4 national participation fairs were organized by EHKIB in 2024 within the scope of foreign marketing activities.”
