‘‘Our New Machine Reduces Flue Gas Emission by 86-94 Percent’’
With 20 years of know-how, Kıray Makine, which produces auxiliary equipment and machinery for the textile industry, offers important solutions to environmental problems with the machines developed in its R&D center.
Kıray Makine started its activities under the name of ‘Teknik Otomasyon’ in 2011 by producing PLC controlled automation panels. With its technician infrastructure and experience, the company offers solutions in the field of electromechanics and mechatronics to many companies in Turkey, mainly in Thrace. Since 2013, the company has been developing edge cutting units, opener units and overhead starching units under the brand of Teknik Otomasyon. In addition, the company adopts the principle of supporting domestic production with original machines.
We interviewed with Samet Kıray, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Kıray Makine for our Tekstil Teknoloji magazine. Samet Kıray said that they continued to produce machinery intensively in 2022; ‘‘Especially ITM 2022 Exhibition contributed a lot to our recognition in the foreign market. As a company, we stuck to our production and growth plans. Therefore, we did not experience too much fluctuation.’’
Considering that the recent developments around the world have also affected the textile industry, can you evaluate the order and sales situation of your company?
Of course, there was hesitation in the orders of our customers, especially in Central Asia and Russia, when the war started, but there were no cancellations. Price increases can now be daily, even hourly. In addition, delivery times have been extended and product suppliers have generally returned to working in cash. This situation of course affected all manufacturing companies like us. In this direction, we are trying to move forward by taking precautions and taking lessons about stocks and the issues we need to pay attention to. We are experiencing a process that needs to move forward with more confident steps.

The emphasis on sustainable and environmentally friendly production has started to gain weight worldwide. As a company, what will be your priorities when developing products in the new period?
Kıray Makina is a company that has made serious studies on environment, energy consumption and efficiency since its establishment and has paid attention to this in all the machinery and equipment it produces.
In recent years, the global world has realized some of its mistakes and is trying to take measures. We try to support this effort with new products. For example, this year we introduced pre washing kint to stenter, which is an effective product in reducing the chimney emissions of dryers and significantly reducing water consumption, to the service of textile manufacturers. According to scientific data fixed by the tests and reports of Istanbul Technical University, we see that it reduces flue gas emissions by 86-94% and there is no need to use filters. For us, it has been a serious R&D process carried out by staying in contact with different sectors.
This product is an important innovation for the machinery and textile industry. With this product, Kıray Makina has put its hand under the stone regarding environmentally friendly and sustainable production, and our other products have many advantages over their competitors in terms of water and energy consumption compared to their counterparts in the market.
In 2023, we are about to complete the R&D studies of several machine projects that will increase production in the market and save energy and time. Let’s give the good news already.

What innovations, trends and developments are expected in the textile machinery sector in the near future?
The world’s population growth and consumption continue at a rapid pace. Resources per capita are decreasing. How can we meet the need by using less existing resources? Developing alternative ways of production without polluting nature will be the top priority in all sectors. This is not a choice but a necessity. This situation obliges companies to turn to science, research and development. A bright future does not await companies that cannot do this and insist on continuing with traditional methods. We have already tried and will try to ensure this in every product we produce. This is our debt to our children, our country and humanity. As Kıray Makina, our claim is to produce technology and use the existing one. Our company will not produce any product that does not contain technology.
How was 2022 for your company? Can you evaluate your production volume, orders and export markets?
In 2022, we continued to produce intensively. Especially ITM 2022 Fair increased our recognition in the foreign market. Our company has a stable growth and production plan. For this reason, I should state that we did not experience too many fluctuations or were not affected by instant situations. We continued to produce quality products with a quality team. In terms of orders, I can say that we are quite busy. Our lean production and 5S studies continue intensively and we take care not to lose control while continuing to grow.

At what stage are your R&D activities? What are your targets for 2023? Will you have new machinery and investment projects?
R&D work never ends at Kıray Makina. As I mentioned above, we plan to realize our very ambitious projects on energy and efficiency in 2023.
Especially in the centenary year of our Republic, we believe that people who value this land should work more than ever. We aim to have a year suitable for our company.
