Cosmo Kimya Aims to Increase Its Domestic and International Activities Even More
Dr. Süleyman Gürsoy, Cosmo Kimya R&D and Production Manager
Cosmo Kimya, produces approximately 150 products including pretreatment, dye auxiliary product and finishing auxiliary product in its production facility located in Kıraç Industrial Zone. The company has monthly sales of 500-600 tons of these products.
Most of Cosmo Kimya’s productions have GOTS (Global Organic Textile Standards) conformity certificate and ZDHC (Zero Discharge Hazardous Chemicals) Level 3 certificate. We interviewed with Dr. Süleyman Gürsoy, the company’s R&D and Production Manager for this month’s issue of our magazine. In our interview, we talked about the activities and future projects of Cosmo Kimya.
Last year, countries passed heavy tests with the pandemic period. Most sectors were negatively affected by this period. How did Cosmo Kimya survive this pandemic period?
In the first three months of the pandemic period – in the time period when there are restrictions – sales at Cosmo Kimya fell to 10 percent as in every company. As of June, when the restrictions were removed, our sales quickly started to return to their previous levels. In the following months, that is, starting from the second half and last quarter of the year, our sales started to be above the previous year. Despite the pandemic in 2020, because of the increase in knitters, Cosmo Kimya achieved its sales targets. Of course, at this point, we can say that the increase in exchange rates is also effective.
What kind of R&D studies did you do in 2020? Have you had any projects for the textile industry?
We made TÜBİTAK SME 1507 project. R&D studies of this project is still in progress. In this study, it is aimed to synthesize an optical brightener for synthetic fiber polyester. We are in the last phase of the project. Laboratory studies have been completed successfully. The project will be terminated by March 2021.
Which point are you now in domination of domestic and international markets? Which countries do you export to?
As Cosmo Kimya, we are a company that aims to increase its export figures and try to develop sales plans accordingly. Since we could not visit abroad and joined exhibitions due to the pandemic, we could not reach the export figures we wanted yet. As Cosmo Kimya, we export products to Russia, Belarus, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Iran and Egypt. We aim to increase the ratio of exports in total turnover from 15 percent to 25-30 percent. We intend to achieve this by providing more technical support to the distributors in the countries mentioned above and by producing new, ecological and problem-solving products according to the needs of the market.
What are your expectations for 2021? Do you have new projects, can you talk about them?
We think that 2021 will be better in all areas than 2020. As Cosmo Kimya, we want to increase our domestic and international activities. With new works, we want to promote our company more abroad and increase the number of countries we export to. Among the target countries are; Poland, Sri Lanka, Morocco and Algeria. In addition, we aim to expand the market in countries such as Pakistan and Bangladesh to which we currently export. We are considering developing a joint project with a European company within the scope of Horizon 2021-2027 in 2021. In this way, we want to benefit from the funds allocated by the European Union for R&D for the development of our company.
